Most of us use 168 -175 Sierra MK for target shooting for the .308, normally the 175 pills for further past 600 yards, but has anyone tried the 190-200 Sierra MK for better BC and wind resistance? The gun I am shooting is the Crusader .308 from GA Precision with a 26 inch barrel with 11.25 twist.

I've tried some 190 SMKs in my .308 out to 300yds. They did fine but not really enough distance to gain advantage. I've not done any more load testing with them since the first lot though.

I've been shooting Berger 210 VLDs in my 11.25 5R .308 Win for years. They work fine for me.

Another guy on here (Bigngreen) shoots Berger 215 Hybrids in his .308 out to 1,500 yards. Says it does excellent for him. Also, last year Bryan Litz won a 1000 yard shooting competition with a .308 Win and Berger 215 Hybrids.

I've played with the 200 MK. It did ok, but my barrel twist didn't handle them well. Heck, my barrel is worn out and hardly handles the 175TMK right now.

I always shot 168 Gold Metal Match and my .308 was good. Now I shoot 208 Horandy's in it with Reloder 17 and it's awesome! I think you will like the heavy bullets in the .308.

I've shot THOUSANDS of those **** bullets out of a .308 Win, 30/06, and 300 Win Mag and won lots of trash in NRA Comp using them! I discovered that they had one major problem aka....the sumbeeches always wanted to shoot where the rifle was pointed!!

I'm gonna try some Berger 185 VLDs in my 308 Win soon and see how they do! They shoot 'lights out' in my '06!

I shot 190gr Sierra MatchKings out of my 300Win mag consistently in the .1's @ 100yds. It was a phenomenal bullet and my rifle loved it!

Groups never expanded past .5MOA at any range i shot if i did my part. It was a great rifle, but that Douglas XX "Premium Air-Gauged" barrel was a copper-fouling rascal if ever there was one! Never a Douglas again....

Hey there,

Yes, unfortunately, years ago when I worked up my most accurate load using the Speer 190 match, Speer in all their wisdom stopped making them. I tried others after that, Match Kings of course (200gr) but compared to the Speer product the Matchking's always weighed out with diverse weight differnces. So I always tend to come out with at least 4 to 5 lots of weights. So for that reason I just don't like them, it goes to quality and control of it. With the Speer bullets, 190 meant 190! Sometimes a hair more or less, but nothing at all like the Matchking bullets. And for me who won't even engage much under 700 with this rifle, that makes a difference.

Also tried the Berger 215 Hybrids in this rifle, but the accuracy dropped off. I believe it may have to do with the big difference in Ogive shape. This rifle has always shot sub-half at 300 with the std ogive shape and bullet length of the Speer and others, but it seems giving the bullet that much of a jump start to the lands with the Bergers is hurting the accuracy. I am wondering if it isnt better to have a smith cut the chamber to work specifically with the Bergers.

Has anyone else found that issue using the Bergers?

My twist is a 1/12 (Remington LTR). I shoot above 6000 ft and it holds the 208s very well but the 168's began to tumble at about 600 yards.
