What’s the farthest you have taken a big game animal with a rifle?

West Tx Trans-Pecos mule deer at 547 yds off top of a high rack truck. Winchester 70 270. 130 gr factory bullet. Verified with laser range finder. This was about 20 years ago.
Fast forward to last year took a nice antelope at 415 yds, full custom 7SS off of a tripod using an Arca rail. 168 VLD-H. Not nearly the range of that rifle.

I shot a black bear at 500 with a 7mag. Hit him both shots he was standing one in the shoulder, one through the lungs. Missed both the trotting shots. He was still alive by the time we hiked over to him. Tough as nails 13 year old per the tooth aging G&F does.

875 on a pronghorn, 25SST w. 135 LR Hyb @ 3199fps.
1374 on a pair of coyotes, 300RUM w. 230 Hyb @ 3113fps
1201 on a squirrel, 300RUM w. W30 Hyb @ 3113fps (actually hit just under him, but spall blew him about 15' up and he didn't move.

My daughter (both on video):
771 on a pronghorn, 6.5SLR w. 130 OTM @ 2925fps, two shots with wind (first was fatal, second was an anchor as he was still standing)
741 on a squirrel, 6.5SLR w. 130 OTM @ 2925fps
1201 yards on a SQUIRREL?!

2 words…..WOW…SER!

I shot my furthest this weekend at 465 yards on a whitetail doe. I'm sure I'm not even close to the farthest and probably not even what some consider long range but it's pretty far for me. I used a 6mm creedmoor 88gr hammer hunter 3340fps at muzzle and 2240 estimated at impact.

It got me thinking about how far other people have taken animals. Post em up with what cartridge and loads you used.
I never had the need to shoot a deer past 250 yards. I'm usually within a 100 yards. Perhaps the opportunity will present itself one day. Longest shot with a Marlin 375 Win lever action was at 150 on a doe

I took my longest at 808 metres, with my 7STW running 168g ABLR. Usually, I would be hunting that particular area (New Zealand) with either my 264WM or 300WM, but I was talked into using the barrel screwed on at the time. Took a really nice Red Stag, then another the following day at 678 metres.
I have been very impressed with the 7STW, because normally I'm not a 7mm guy, but I now know why people love them, but the other 2, and many others, do just as much of a great job.
Still waiting to stretch the legs on my 257 Weatherby…

Cheers.

To Lance Kenyon,
What scope was on your 300 RUM to hit a squirrel at 1200 yards ?
