1-10 twist on factory .270 win. Why?

If you want more out of a 270 you can go with a 270wsm. I love mine, using the 145gr eldx or the 150 ABLR its a good long range beast slayer, even with a 1:10 twist.

My uncle had a 6.5 creedmore I have a 260. Mine was just as good as his in every way. He sold the CM I still have my 260
That's his choice. What's that got to do with anything? Everything I wrote in my original post is the truth. I don't care whether you believe it. You asked.

I bought my son a 6.5 creed because it went better with his flatbill and skinny jeans and I bought myself a 260 rem. Sure there is more factory ammo for the 6.5, but there is also an absurd amount in 260. Remington finally made a decent 260 with an 8 twist in the 5r Gen 2 and I don't see any advantage the creedmoor offers over the 260 rem. Maybe cheap factory rifles with a fast twist. Cuddos to Hornady's marketing team.
The flat bill and skinny jeans just cracked me up. Yeah, we are trying to accept all kids and get them into hunting. I have the same in my grandkids but they are buying into hunting and camping. We have 12 going and 6 hunting for the jr. hunt this year, so total success here on getting them out and they are hooked on hunting. .270 is perfect for most kids capable of seeing the scope at a comfortable reach.
Picture of my 14 y.o. grandaughter and sister with her 275 yard deer in Kaibab AZ. 270 Win is more than adequate!

Factory's are slow to change without hitching their wagon to bigger profits, they copycat trends ,have their meeting and go with the projected graphs, no biggie if your not buying into it , there much info out there read up ,do your home work , Or not it's your choice .

To answer the OP: Because a 130 grain .277 diameter bullet at 3,100 fps has been successfully killing small game to moose since 1925 at normal hunting ranges. LRH has come into its own over the last 20 years. Only in the past few years have bullet manufactures made anything heavier than a 150 gr spitzer in .277 (excluding the 160 gr round nose - not a LR bullet). These bullets are certainly not main stream.

IMHO for LRH a 7mm-08, .280 Rem, .280 Ackley, of a 7mmx06 would be a better choose than the .270 Win. Not for 80% or more of general hunting public, but for LRHing.

Good luck

Jerry

Yuppers,,, the 1:10 twist works just fine with the 150"s and 160 gr boolitz,,, pick up 4 boxes of 130,,, 140,,, 150,,, semi pointed round nose 160's and get at it...

Your rifle will like one or all of them...

Life is just that simple...

My 270 with 24 inch Krieger 1/10 twist shoots any 150 fine,& I've pushed them to 625 yds ,I've no doubt about the 160either just saying , in the past Speer made a 170 round nose got some ,Sierra made a 170 rn also ,I've shot 90 grainers all the way up to Barnes 180 rn also not made any more ,& never had any Problems with accuracy Or stabilization , why fix it if it Works ,except for wanting a fast twist for more Specialized bullets ,again choices cheers !

Oh sure...boolitz. But you gotta admit 1:10 does not shoot 150 and 160 gr pills fine.

Actually they do...

The 150's and 160's have been around for many years,,, Nosler used a 1:10 twist to test their 160gr boolitz and Hodgen powders in there online powder recommendations...

I'm probilibly wrong as normal since it wasn't me that tested the data and published it... Ha

If Winchester had a lick of sense. They would release a HMR style rifle in 270 WSM with a 8.5 twist with a generous throat, they couldn't flip enough flap jacks if they did.

Winchester is a great company ,they mite be teamed with Browning, Remember Winchester helped build this country !!! . Sportsmen & Women need to voice their Wants that will bring change , then other MFG'swill follow suite savy ...?

FWIT I have shot the old 135 gr SMK out to 800 yards on steel with satisfactory results with a Remington 700 sporter. I never tried the 150 gr Ballistic tips, but I would if I still had the rifle.
