Need a new Rangefinder

My Leica also turned up MIA 2 years ago & I replaced it with the Kilo 2000. Some functions vary between the two but I believe the quality is equal between the two.
Very happy with my Kilo.

My stuff doesn't grow legs, my son borrow it, problem is they seem to have a "no return" policy.

I just got a sig kilo 3000. Paid it with a garmin foretrex. I used it out to 1100 yards with the foretrex and the ballistic sol were right on. Glass is good for 1000 binoculars, everything ranged inside of 1200 no problem trees and building to 2000. A ship in Mississippi River 4950. I liked the idea of a bdx scope on grandsons rifle

I have two recommendations depending on how you expect to use your Range Finder as well as a resource you should consider purchasing and reading before you purchase a Range Finder.

If you are looking for a binocular, I recommend the Sig Sauer KILO 3000 BDX 10X42. From what, I've read and and seen on YouTube, this device can range targets > 2000 meters. That is performance similar to the Vectronix devices at a lower cost. This is a YouTube review by Tiborasaurex. Rex knows his stuff and his reviews are accurate.

I would purchase a pair of these binoculars if; i) the binoculars were 10X50 and ii) if the binoculars had the anemometer and ballistic computer capabilities of the Sig 2400.

I shoot steel at distances greater than what my Sig 2400 can range and for those distances I use google earth to calculate the distances.

I use my Sig 2400 for hunting. That device works great out to 1,500 meters plus it gives me the ballistic solution. I don't have a problem taking and animal at 1,000 meters if I have a good rest and the wind is manageable.

If you don't need the ballistic computer, I would get the binoculars. If you do need the ballistic computer, I recommend the Sig 2400. I used to use a range finder and Kestrel anemometer and input the data in an application on my iPhone with cold hands. That is slow and error prone.

Finally, I recommend reading Bryan Litz book "Modern Advancements in Long Range Shooting". That book has a chapter written by Nick Vitalbo. Nick is an engineer who has a small company that is developing the technology that Sig is implementing in their devices. Before I read this chapter, I really didn't know what to look for in a Range finder and why. Very helpful. The rest of the book is a very good read as well.

It does come with a free bdx version of applied ballistic. You down load to your phone or iPad. Blue tooth transfer range and angle to phone you get ballistic sol on both. Works to 800 yards. It will also pair to kestrel and garmin foretrex both having applied ballistic elite giving sol to 10000 yards on that device. Past 1000 it is best to rest the unit or use a tripod for quicker return on small targets

I just use a dope card for windage so I don't need the AB ap of the Kilo 2400. I got the kilo 2200 and am very pleased with it. Ranged hot air balloons over 2,000 m. Had no problem ranging deer to 500m last winter (longest opportunity I had).

I wouldn't worry about the kilo, they work great and have good warranty. I can hit 3000 with my 2400 ab and have no problem ranging animals at 2400 ( as long as I can find a way to hold still)
Have you attached 2400 to monopod/bipod/tripod with the included mount I find a monopod/trek pole works well. Wish the reticle were something other than a gigantic (30moa??) circle. Needs to be a point reticle. Seems like a shotgun reticle for a rifle application.

If you are going to push shots out to 1000 yards and beyond do not discount the value of applied ballistic elite. The program takes into account all the important factors and some others don t . When paired with the Garmin or kestrel you can include the direction of fire, and consider influence from aerodynamic jump. Not to mention on site environmental considerations. If you want to reach out past 600 yards this all starts adding up

I didn't know that. Thank-you!

The fact that it links to a Kestrel is very interesting. I use a Kestrel when shooting steel. However, I still wouldn't get a pair of binos just yet. I would get the binos if I could reduce the number of pieces of equipment I have to carry while hunting.

I have a pair of 10X50 Swarovski binoculars that work great. I use the SIG 2400 for range and ballistic solutions. That is two pieces of equipment.

The SIG binoculars appear to be a better rangefinder than the Sig 2400. However, if I purchased the SIG binoculars, I would still need to bring my Kestrel. That is two pieces of equipment. I am less likely to drop/misplace one piece of equipment than two pieces of equipment. Also, realistically, while hunting, I am not going to shoot an animal past 1,300 meters.

If the SIG binoculars had the same functionality as the SIG 2400 (anemometer, inclinometer and ballistic computer) and displayed the ballistic solution in the field of view of the binoculars, I could trade in my Swarovski binoculars and Sig 2400 for a single piece of equipment.

SIG is innovating quickly and I bet they come up with the "killer Solution" (at least for my hunting needs) soon.

I went with the Garman Foretrex 701 and bought a heavy duty but comfortable carrier that goes on my wrist and makes me look like a bad *** seal sniper. The truth is even I can t loose or break it now. I range then look at the Garman on my left wrist for the ballistic sol. It is Fast and not so complicated a old fart like me could learn it in a day or two. The applied ballistic elite is strong juju!!!! I took a new unfired rifle to the range ran a tall target to verify scope was plum, checked calibration on the dials. put in a correction factor and established a exact 100 yard zero with just 12 shoots. range our farthest target at 1120 yards dialed in the sol fired 3 shots. What was most impressive was that on the next trip . I had used those 3 shots to true my data. first round hit center of coyote head at 420 yards, the heart on the pig at 800 yards and pOA at 1120
