My Rem 700 FIRED on Bolt Closing!!

Ingwe, about a month ago I received a new build 300 WM with blueprinted Rem action & Calvin Elite trigger from Dixie Precision Rifles (bad people....just want your money & have no pride). I had 2 unexpected misfires on my range. I hired a different gunsmith to repair it. He said the trigger had been adjusted to where when you move from fire to safe it was not engaging. Still don't understand all the way, except a clear understanding that the 1st gunsmith sent an unsafe rifle without any accountability.
 
I want to hear the test results of the old trigger from TriggerTech...
I would like to know what they say was the culprit.....
Wear sounds logical....cqnt recall the round count though...
OP....do you have any idea on round count....had anyone had trigger out to smooth the sear.....

Well most people aren't clairvoyant so a mechanical failure is accidental as we have no control over it. Unless you tear everything down from new to perform your own QC which I don't figure most do. Now a known mechanical issue not being taken care of can be filed under negligence for sure.

I'm not going to get into, what is an act of God and what is human mechanical error...unless you want to get after it?!

The ONLY thing different about this incident was that I was chambering a round that I didn't FL size down to the base, and I was having difficulty closing the bolt on it. Actually, I had to push the bolt forward very strongly and I was in the process of forcing the bolt down when it went off. It fired the second the bolt was down all the way.

That said, I don't think that it should have fired but I would like to hear what you guys think, and if this is "normal" because of what I did or if there is something wrong with the gun. I have several hundred rounds through the rifle and this has never happened

I once had a Rem. 700 action screwed to a .223AI with timmny trigger. I had it set at 2.5lbs. The trigger tuning was done in the warm weather of So. Calif. it had to this point operated flawlessly. I took a fall varmint hunting trip to Wyo. The weather being significantly colder caused my rifle to "slam fire" I'm pretty sure this will be very similar to your issue with your trigger. Re-adjust it you'll be good to go.

I am saying there was no way for him (or anyone for that matter) to know that there was an issue within a sealed component. There is a difference between accidental and negligent. The former can and will become the latter when not addressed.

I'll only chill when I know this obvious death machine is appropriately thrown into a shredder. Don't want no Rem 700 with dem crappy trigger techs running around killing anybody. They'll be a "trigger tech under fire" on 60 mins in about a week just from this thread alone! Cant be having that.

You probably lifted the bolt cocking device away from the trigger sear, the tolerances are so minimal. But that is TOO much. You should contact Trigger tech. Was that trigger fitted? Did they have to remove metal from the firing pin cocking piece? I just went through this with my model 70.

I say don't buy a Remington ! How many innocent people have died already because of that gross criminally negligent company. They were supposed to be bankrupt by now.
 
This happened to a few friends of mine, while on a bear hunt cleaning the gun in the hotel room. One of the guys (don't know him) I guess forgot to clear his chamber (I know dumb) shut the bolt and it fired in the room, passing through a wall and into another building adjacent to them and narrowly missing my friend.

While he should have never had one in the chamber in the room ( I don't think he knew he did) Remington paid for all the repairs and obviously took ultimate responsibility.

Be careful out there.
 
The OP has it figured out now. Spoke to TT and got a replacement. I'm glad the first few serious posts helped him.

There are plenty of Remington sucks threads so please find those and complain there.

Trigger tech is pretty new, so we will take this one example and crucify them by repeating this one example over and over again to make it seem like a bigger deal than it is.

I'll get my lawyers and press charges. Whatever money I win I'll probably keep it, so you better start your own lawsuits.
