Gohring, you should try bumping up to a .300 Sherman to push those 215's...All you need is a reamer and a set of dies and some new .270 Win brass to form...Nothing else changes. It will compete with the .300WM, but in a standard .473" bolt face long action.
My 26" .30-06 AI will push a 185 VLD right at 3K... That's not that far off of a .300WM, so imagine tossing in a good bit extra powder room and less wall taper in the .300 Sherman, and it should push the 180 Elite Hunters over 3,100 MV. That's smoking! In the future, when I rebarrel my .30-06 AI, I will most-likely be going with a 1:10 twist .300 Sherman. Won't need more than a 10" twist in that cartridge, as I don't plan on pushing more than a 215 Hybrid, as most.
