Went to a out door show & seen a lot of guys from New Mexico any info on this any one been to. New Mexico for elk

I drew a New Mexico muzzy tag for Oct this past year. I hunted with GT Nunn near Magdalena and scored on a 340 bull......My best elk .

I've hunted 15 51 and Valle calderas... Was only successful on the latter.
Not sure where I am putting in this year.

Who did u hunt with?? Is that a guide??

Good chance at getting an elk, but odds of being drawn for a tag are 10% or less.

Candidly, I can't answer that. I don't play the lottery/draw thing. I buy all my hunts. Landowner tags always.

For the Gila unit 16A, 16C, or 16D. Unit 16B is mainly wilderness. Unit 17 has some big bulls in it. About any unit you put in for that has good elk the chances of drawing a tag is going to be the limiting factor. Guides are worth the money and private land is worth it if you can afford it.

Usually the chances to draw Unit 13 muzzle loader are about 50/50. Last year the chances went down to 10 percent due to a hunting show killing a bull on camera and airing it on TV the year before so everyone applied there. So roll the dice and cross your fingers.

Are those good for bow hunts??? Seems rut is always the week after the last bow hunt.
Or the first muzzle hunt.

Elkriver, a landowner tag in any of the western units of the Gila National Forrest are tops. Chance of finding one? Slim. Fair bulls on the Jicarilla, but quite pricey. I don't know your budget, but the guided hunts on the tribal lands are the highest $$. Good luck.
