Best gun action

Regardless of price what would be the rifle action you would stick on a gun. I personaly like weatherby/howa 1500. I know most people are going to stick to their rem 700 which i like too. I played with a savage 111 lrh the other day and its action wasnt bad either but ive also held a couple savages that weren't near as smooth as others. I know a lot of people start building guns up from savage/stevens actions. I've heard weatherby mark V actions are like cutting through hot butter but they don't seem to be used as much as others. So if you could have your pick of any action whose would it be and it doesnt have to be one i mentioned.

It depends on the use and where you live.

I live in the desert and have been told by my custom rifle smith (2 of them actually) that certain well-known actions are made of a softer metal and that given the very dusty, windy, desert environment in las vegas the grit will wear the actions faster than normal. So I should avoid them in favor of actions with harder metals, like STiller or Barnard.

For a tactical or magazine fed action I think that its hard to go wrong with a Surgeon or a Stiller. I've never owned a Howa or Weatherby, so I can't speak to them.

My current actions in my gun safe are Stiller, Surgeon, Remington, Nesika (from Washington), Barnard.

Holy cow! If that ain't the 1 million dollar question!! lol Wow, is that hard to answer.... I have 4 Savages, 3 Remmys, 2 Ruger's .... & a partridge in a pear tree.

anyway, after installing the bolt lift kits in the Savages I believe they are in all accounts, better than a stock remmy, but my "worked over" remmy's fell better than a stock Savage & the Ruger is just a beater...

If I have my choice of customs (limited by me being a southpaw), it would either be a Nesika (**** are they smooth), or a Defiance, the Stiller looks great but have a few issues I don't like.

Well, I felt that the Nesika Bay and BAT receivers were the top of the pile for a precision big game rifle receiver. As such, when I designed my Raptor, I took both of these receivers, pulled the best features from both, added several unique features and came up with my Raptor receiver.

I designed it to be the ultimate receiver for a long range, precision big game rifle platform so I guess I would have to say I think the Raptor is the best receiver out there!!!

That said, if you want a 6 lb ultralight, do not bother looking into the Raptor!!!

Remington 700, trued up, for most calibers and 9 lug Wby MK V's for most boomers. I've never shot benchrest, so these work for me at $350 - $650 for a complete donor rifle. My best (7-08) can shoot into the mid teens (best .134") at 100 yds when I can. My .30 x .378 once put five 190gr matchkings into .204" at 100 yds. I just switched to 200gr Accubonds. First 2 loads are under 1/2". Both rifles are way better than I am.

For bolt actions 1) Pre '64 Winchester 2) Sako L57 (Pre Garcia) 3) Remington 700 are my choices.

I am also fond of the Ruger # 1 and the Savage 99 actions.
