The 20-50 caliber.(pictures :)

I'd like to shoot one, like from the nose gun on an Apache helicopter ... (oh sorry that's the 30-millimeter (1.2in) M230 Chain Gun) :D

Just to clarify something that I think got missed, someone said there was a law against owning a rifle of larger caliber then 50 cal. That is not true, you simply have to submit a writen request with the ATF showing that the firearm is for sporting purposes only and you have to get a written approval from the ATF for building such a weapon. No problem at all, just time to submit the paperwork.

No different then building a 577 T-Rex, 585 Nyati(sp?), 577 Nitro, 600 Nitro, 700 Nitro. All need to have written approval by the ATF to build.

The FatMac was designed by Mr. McMillan and was an attempt to improve on standard 50 BMG ballistic performance. THe idea was to significantly reduce TOF for 1000 yard BR shooting, it did not work because again, teh match bullets are not able to handle the increased velocity. The reason he went with the shortened 20mm case was because of the lack of appropriate powders slower then what we are using in the BMG currently.

In the end, it was a serious attempt to improve on the 50 BMG ballistics but even McMillan admitted it ended up being little more then an experiment that did not prove useful.

Hell, my 510 AM is boarderline as far as being practical with the powders we have to use today and it only adds around 30 grains of useful powder capacity and its near the limits of what is practical.......

I was told a sniper team in Iraq was shooting this 130 lb rifle and were putting several shots into a 20 ft cave opening at 4500 yards. Not the lightest thing to run around in the desert with but something other than the shoulder has to absorb that kind of recoil. Also supposed to group at about 60 in at 4500yds. From what i am told there is a 1,000 gr projectile that is supposed to be much more balisticaly potent but is for military use only.

That 1000 gr bullet the military is using is it possible it's titanium?

Depleted Uranium! It has a much higher density than steel or lead and weighs a lot more. They can package it in smaller bullets with much higher weight. It is mostly used for anti-armor.

Tank

I meant military calibers over half inch have special laws .there are no sporting purpose fore a 20mm or 14.5mm anti tank rifle .but wildcats etc over half inch is different

platnuim /platinum is denser than du but $$$.pure silver pentrates goode to over 2' in ballistic jellatin from a 45/70.Also there's another materail the 460 steyr bullets made from they hol d up and fire accurately @ 3300 fps so i know it's not brass

Anyone have any pics of what these rifles look like that shoot the 20-50 or 20mm?

The big 20 with a 50bmg.. No guess which is which...

i deleted the pic from my email sorry.but it looks just like the 20mm size and all the dimesions etc are the same with the 20-50

[QUOTE up to 2 miles plus with devastating effect on leveling homes and buildings.
