Powder Prices - good lord

I got two alerts from Powder Valley this weekend. It was for availability of 2 powders. I had put in an alert for RL16 and AR-Comp. The link they provided was for the 8# jugs, one of each, that I set in the alert for some time ago. I clicked each link and it automatically loaded them in the cart and put me on the website. Very convenient. I scrolled down, expecting a hefty bill, but not that hefty... almost $1,100.00 and Hazmat shipping wasn't added yet. When I came to, I checked for injuries from falling out of my chair, called the neighbors to let them know that the screams they heard were from the tv, clicked delete, delete, and wept for three hours. Ok... most of that is bs but the price sure wasn't.

I learned how to make decent black powder a few years ago. Decent enough to sub it in for GOEX in a pinch. At this rate it won't be long and all competition will be with muzzle loaders and flintlocks.
Years ago my friends made fun of me for stocking up,needless to say they are not laughing now

A few months ago Alliant announced a 30% increase on all powders.....now a couple 8lbs are gonna be in the 1k+- neighborhood. Glad I'm stocked up on most of the RL powders I use.

Vv powders used to be the most expensive now they're the cheapest from what I can tell. 🤷‍♂️
Well let's see....if push comes to shove and I have to buy more powder $500 for 8#=56,000 [email protected] per bullet loads 918rds@1rd per whitetail @approximately 65# of venison per =59,670# of venison. If I have to I guess I can live with it. Lol. But putting all the pun aside it's absolutely ridiculous.

You got that about right! Look at Powder Valley. They have kits to make Primers cups and material to set for the cap to go boom. They make them in small or larger primer size. I don't fully understand the sizing just yet, but at least getting set up for a rainy day. I have done some reading on making black powder, but haven't gone any farther. Got to where I have set up to make bullets in any caliber. Still haven't got the proper type of lead yet.
Haven't set up on a black powder rifle yet. Not sure what stile of set up to use. Inline, Caplock, or Flintlock.

I spoke to someone in the industry and he said he thinks we still have 2 years of this crap before it gets better. As for, will they go back to pre-COVID, he said he doubts that but prices will drop.
Prices are not going to drop. The gouging will calm down when supplies increase (if they do). But I don't see the prices of powder and primers dropping. Right now primers are at about $70 per box dealer price where they were under $20 just a couple years ago. Powder hasn't gone up a ton in price, in fact some of it like IMR, Reliant, Accu, etc... I am not showing any price changes on my ordering from 2022. So two years. But I am seeing the price go up at a ton of online retailers. The scarcity has made it valuable, but I am still paying the same price today I was in 2022 per order for many of them.

I am in this industry and have been for over a decade now so you can take what I say with that grain of salt if you need.

Silly season is right around the corner so watch the hoarding begin anew...
Presently I see more different powders in the market for sale. Prices is a different story. The powders are staying on the counters also. It's not being sold out in the very second if shows up online. I know it took me over a year to get H1000 and Retumbo on hand. I try not to hoard either.
Remember their's limit on amount of powder and primers on hand. The way I read the Fed laws you are only allow 10,000 primers on hand or in a room. No limits inside a car or pickup. If you are reloader and reload for Rifles, Shotguns, and Pistols. Along with what is spected out in the reloading manuals. Or Large and small primers for Rifle and pistols, Match or not matched primers and the different primer manufacture out there. I don't see how 10,000 primer could be the limits. There at least 9 different primer types out there. Now if you get regular and match primers. 10,000 wouldn't even come close to match what is needed to be on hand.
So I guess we all need and old car out back to store the primers in😁🤣 to stay within the law. "STUPID IS" "STUPID DOES"

I was in a local store last week and they had 8 lb jugs of RL16 for $590. I passed. I started reloading before COVID hit in 2020. Luckily I had a few primers and powder already and then bought more up until recently. I've weened myself off Alliant powders mainly due ti scarcity and now price. I think the only ones I'd buy now are RL23 and RL26. Haven't seen either in a long time. I got turned into Ramshot Hunter almost two years ago and now it's no where to be found.

Canada is doing the same thing (collapsing the economy) with their new program of giving EVERYONE $2000/mo. We're going to see mass migration at the northern border next.
While I'm not denying a pending economic collapse in Canada, as a Canadian, what in the world are you talking about? They aren't giving every Canadian $2000 a month.

Dear God I hope not about the .22LR…but up here in Canada there is powder in stock again finally, some h4350, 4831, superformance….

It's 89.99 a pound before tax where I am locally. With tax it's 100 bucks a pound on the nose just about.

I've been finding some cheaper on auction, especially if they're opened partial containers…I know that's always a gamble and maybe one day i get swindled but so far so good and I'm pretty careful inspecting everything and comparing it against existing samples of the same powder I already have that I bought new and such…

Got a VERY overfill container of superformance, 29 oz (a pound is 16)…and I got it for 29 bucks! It is what it says it is, no issue. Another overfill container (I assume the original owner was refilling 1 pounders from 8 pounders?) of h380 got very cheap, and an 8 pound of the now discontinued imr4955 enduron with just a few ounces used out of it for 245 bucks Canadian. That works out to like 35 a pound I think. I'm not even crazy about that particular powder but it works and I'm even less crazy about paying what they're asking for new stuff.
God lord. Single # is around $50.00 or some less here in the USA. Powder prices are moving back and forth here in the USA. People here in the USA are running out of money or Credit Card room to charge on them. I don't see the prices to increase. Biden did stop the sales of 5.56 Winchester Manufacture Lakecity to private parties.
**** I hope Biden is out coming next election!😁
