And that is what some of us did, and some started long before 2008.
Inflation is hitting most everything, and some products have doubled or tripled in the last 3-4 years. Many items went into complete shortages or unobtainable during the height of the pandemic, and some of those have yet to return.
Most inflation you are seeing is fake. The companies piggy backed on real inflation to raise prices. Can't have record profits if inflation costs are driving up prices. They are making record profits because they are raising prices and costs are actually dropping.

I would reckon that manufacturing has increasingly shifted from civilian markets to military markets under lower- fixed price, government purchases, to governments actively in combat or expecting to be.
The manufacturing priority for reloaders is at the bottom of the list. We also pay disproportionate increases in costs. We're the little ones looking for a nipple.

Ukraine conflict consumed all the Soviet era artillery shells, ammo, etc. Ukraine switched to Western equipment/ammo. Consumed all the available 155 ammo. Israel-Hamas consuming shells/ammo.
Peace dividend after collapse of Soviet Union = closed ammo/powder/etc. plants.
Massive push for resupplying the US/NATO ammunition dumps.

I have to point out something you are all missing.
Powders that military contracts use are NOT canister powders we buy, BUT, the manufacture of bulk powder for military contracts is eating into the production of canister powder because military contracts take precedent.
The thing I don't get is the lack of primers, we used to make Winchester primers here, but we no longer do, which surprised me, so WHO IS making them?

Exactly, Government contracts for powder is for only a handful of cartridges. Therefore all the other powders, bullets and brass are being put in a shortage by the companies and driving prices up.
It's not like we are sitting in a WW2 situation, these companies have to be making twice the profits at this point since prices have at least doubled for most things

cups or material for others I assume?

They make the whole primer. The primer compound is extremely, well... explosive. So they make it well away from other processes. I believe they just make primer for their ammo.

Vista, et al, are raising prices because they can. It's a preemptive strike. If demand goes down (I believe it will) worst case is they offer "sale price" and still make profit.
Companies manage inventory levels much better in today's world.
With the exception of some calibers, plenty of loaded ammunition available - at a profitable price.
Components...not so much, less profit. If you are willing to pay a premium, they are out there.
For example, primers & powder. Retailers will sell at a price over & above their anticipated replacement cost.
Until that expectation decreases, prices will not.
