Some brass not bumping back

I have the first cartridge that won't let me hillyjack screw in my die to make a bump work. 708AI. LOL.

I hear ya, I have had a handful over time that wouldn't size down.
I just pitched them in a box. I figured if I get some of those comp shell holders and the annealer I should be able to get them back in shape

I mean, like, none of the cases size down! I'm shooting some pretty stiff chambering brass for load development right meow. LOL

Anneal after every firing of every cartridge I shoot. It is a custom reamer/chamber thing that's plaguing this.

Oversize neck thickness? Neck gets squeezed down, expander ball has to work harder on the way out and ends up pulling on the shoulder removing any bump?

Yeah, I know.... grasping hard here..,,.

Anneal with socket and soldering torch and give it another pass in the die.

I did that and screwed it in a full turn now with no change

I guess I need to go full cam over and whisper sweet nothings to them

If the can't bump the shoulder with the die turned down to the shell holder then the dies bad, send it back.

Most cases sized fine he said in first post. It's only a few cases from same batch.

Yep, I went there too. Pulled the expander ball and no change

Screwed the die in past camming. Held for 2-3 seconds, no change.

Found a couple more fired cases from that chamber, backed die out to normal bump setting, no issues.

Idk guess these go in the twilight zone bucket

if the brass isn't malleable enough to stay where you put it, nothing but the correct heating temp will solve the issue.

Lapua brass once fired i doubt its work hardened. Id make sure you got good lube on case people skim past equal lube case to case changes the force and how much bump. Id hold pressure for atleast 2 seconds see if its not springing back. But definitely amp is worth it or annealeze atleast

Sometimes I do that about 3 times in a row, holding for 4-5 seconds.
Even doing that I have had some that would not bump.
That's why I am thinking about getting some competition she'll holders to see if that helps in those situations

Redding Competition Shellholders decrease the amount the shoulder is set back not increase it. This means they will make the situation worse not better.
