Powder issues

Nosler shows a max load at 70gr with an velocity of 3073 I find Hornady's reloading manual to be very conservative.
rkb21 I looked it up in my most recent Nosler manual and you are correct sir! While waiting for more H1000 to show up I will test load some h4350 loads and give them a try.

Old rooster, you mentioned ejector marks on the Lapua brass.I ran into that issue with Norma brass in my 308 Norma Magnum.I made some brass out of Remington 7mag and Winchester 338 Win Mag brass before I got my Norma brass.I was working on my loads with the brass I made, but when I shot those loads in the Norma brass,I was getting loose primer pockets after the first firing.I had to drop my loads down about 1.5-2.0grs because the brass was just too soft at the case head.I never had a single issue with loose primer pockets with the Winchester or Remington brass.
baldhunter this was virgin Lapua brass and that worries me a bit.Only 3 shot so I may shoot some fireformed brass next load test.I have some RP and Hornady fire formed brass that would work well.
I have been using this load since 1988 in 3 different 300 win mag rifles and never had a problem so maybe I need to fireform my new Lapua brass with a milder load.
Getting a load to shoot no matter the temp is my goal now.

The only problem you experienced was sharper recoil and slight ejection marks, but it's still shooting into one hole? I'm not sure I would change anything especially if this is a hunting load and you will be using it in colder temps.

Unless I am missing your question, if so I apologize.
Good point, and to top it all I was using VIRGIN Lapua brass! Some at our range said the virgin brass could exhibit some high pressure signs until fire formed. The only Lapua brass I have ever used in the past was 30-06 virgin brass but I had a great load at .6 grs lower than max and had no pressure signs before so I expected the same results.
Basically looking for other options besides my old stuff.
Hope my wife don't think that way!

Need ideas from you folks.I am working on reloading for my 300 win mag rifle again.I have an established loads of 69.4 grs of IMR 4350 powder that shoots lights out in cool weather but recently I shot it at about 70 degrees when I got to the range and by the time I set up I guess the temps came up higher than 70 degrees because when I shot the rifle recoil was very sharp!Accuracy was great as it was in the center so I shot again and same thing,I checked my notes and yep the same loads I have been using since 1988 so a third shot was enough to quit. All 3 shots made a single hole.
Question:Is there a temp Insensitive Powder that can shoot a 180 gr bullet 2960 fps so I can keep my custom turret?I was using Hammer bullets that day but if I have them I normally use Accubond bullets.Nosler has 70.0 gr IMR4350 as max so I was under max but that didn't stop the hard recoil and slight ejector marks on the Lapua brass.
I would go with H-4350 as it is a temp stable powder with the approximate burn rate as IMR. Or H-4831sc

I know the guy at the Missoula Scheels said there was a bunch of it a few weeks ago. I ended up having a buddy stop at a Scheels in Colorado and pick me up 4lbs.
Right before cataract surgery a few weeks ago I stopped at Sheels in Great Falls.I should have asked about H1000 then.
I could always check online.

Jim's Hunt some has said I may not get 2960 out of H4831sc but I'm not afraid to try.
I do have several pounds of H4350 on hand.
Like someone else said. It's a hunting rifle and it's shoots great in colder weather as well as warmer with a little pressure. Why fix something that isn't broke. Just don't shoot it in a 100 degree day

Been using the same load since 1988 ?
Nothing wrong with trying something different but that's a long time for this combo to be working good for you.
Sometimes the grass looks greener on the other side but really isn't. I guess you can just jump back over the fence to the IMR if needed.
