Lead Poisoning

Sometimes you have to draw a hard line.
There's nothing wrong with compromise but for some reason after a compromise we're (hunters) losing out and the other side loses nothing. Anyone remember the hunting plan for wolves after reaching so many breeding pairs? Yes it's legal in some states now but how many lawsuits did it take?
There is going to be a ban of lead on some nationally owned land as soon as this year.
I'm not in for any lead ban. Period. For all the same reasons as you. I do know that I make a better bullet for hunting than anything else regardless of material manufactured from. I want people to choose our product for that reason not because they can't use lead because of regulation. If someone chooses to use non lead for whatever reason is important to them, I want them to know about Hammer Bullets.

Agreed but how did the trappers get the right to trap wolves, we worked on it using facts and clear planning a little at a time. Ya, we have check times which sucks and we can't be aggressive with snaring so there was compromise but in the end it's a win, had we all just said all or not hing we'd have nothing at this point!

I think you should listen to some of the many shooters that shoot hammer bullets with great success, and perhaps you may discover a better mouse trap. Just leave the politics out of the bullet choice. Let your barrel's accuracy and terminal performance on game make your decisions. If you feel like the bullets work, order 10 boxes.

I wish the moderator would delete the whole thread, this thread does nothing for Long Range shooting Site.
Me Too, this sure was not my intent

Someone else already mentioned frost…try burying anything in Saskatchewan late November haha
Furthermore even if one did bury a carcass…it's only relevant if large carnivores and scavenger omnivores are incapable of smelling that somethings there and aren't able to dig. Doesn't matter who digs it up, the birds will be getting into it haha.

Bears and coyotes and wolves don't have much sense of smell, do they? Bears, wolves, AND WILD HOGS can't really dig or furrow, can they? 😁😁😁😁😁🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Pack it out. I'd rather pack it out than have the government mandate that I shoot monos. Much like I'd rather not have the government mandate what guns I own, how I store them, if I can carry and when ete.

I won't be doing that. Of course we don't have condors up here…and the ravens are too tough to get poisoned haha. No mandates on using copper either.

Did Canada ban handgun sales? Can you you all buy so called "assault "weapons? Didn't you narrowly miss getting a rifle and shotguns banned for sale?

Yep that's why I clearly specified I was talking about using copper. In no way and at no point has this somehow become a conversation about the differences in firearm liberty overall between Canada and the United States as a) that has nothing to do with what we're talking about and b) I know full well how restrictive our laws are up here overall.

Though I do have to point out one falsehood…we did not narrowly miss losing all shotguns and rifles haha. Even if they attempted to legislate that it wouldn't fly. We don't have the right to bear arms in our constitution or as part of our important heritage, we never fought Britain we just asked nicely for more autonomy after a while of fighting on the same side and still on the same side in major conflicts, we've never had a civil war up here, we haven't existed as a nation nearly as long in general (wasn't as "clement" a land for Europeans to settle right away haha - though the Vikings got to Newfoundland 1000 years ago…and went right back where they came from because it
deemed uninhabitably miserable weather-wise haha) …firearms as weapons and as a symbol of independence and self governance has never been that big of a deal here and it's a very big deal and much more a part of American history and identity (and should be respected as such in my opinion) BUT…ours is a history that takes great pride in the kind of independence that isn't as much about the defiance of powers that be so much as it is about self-reliance and especially historically of living off the land and providing for ourselves be it hunting, fishing, farming…and natural resources in general is the backbone of our economy even more than most nations. A ton of geographical area and not that many people. Lots of nature.

While I want to be clear that I am 100 percent against these ridiculous bans that have indeed happened here, it is a historically demonstrable fact that the majority of Canadians honestly don't care that much if they or their fellow citizens are "allowed" to own handguns or high capacity semi autos. I'm not part of that majority haha but won't deny its true. But when a proposed piece of legislation has threatened to be so broadly restrictive as to disrupt sporting, hunting use of guns up here the backlash has been immediate and strong. That's the part of our heritage that people would fight about. The right and ability to use guns to provide for themselves, not so much defend themselves. Again, not necessarily my view but the truth about my country as best I see it. Our histories are so vastly different and we do indeed have some different values regarding guns and different symbolic meaning ascribed to them. There's no way in hell they'd succeed in banning all rifles and shotguns, nor have they tried to do something that stupid (though stupid has been the trend haha)

On a further note I'm a little relieved to say, regarding some of the unjust new gun laws that target the law abiding and do nothing to address gang violence in big cities and on reserves which is our number one REAL violence problem, the governments of Alberta and my home Saskatchewan have recently successfully passed legislature that places the authority and task of any firearms confiscations or buybacks solely under the provinces own jurisdiction, meaning federal agents CAN NOT legally come and take anyone's guns here unless an actual violent crime has been committed (which makes sense) - it is at the discretion and hand of provincial police authorities, and I know a good number of police officers in Saskatchewan who have said hell will freeze over before they enforce any of this nonsense and come for peaceful citizen's newly illegal firearms.

Wow, that was a long rabbit trail, sorry! 🤣

it's going to take strong men to stop their agenda not squishy Romney types who're afraid to be called "extreme".
Good men doing bad things.
I'm of the hold my beer, I can hit it from here school.
As am I. Grew up with a shot gun propped at the back door loaded with high brass for any predators that May try to get a chicken from the yard.
I did the same thing with lead split shot fishing when I was a kid. No pockets in my shorts.
I Still do at times.

While we are saying science rules, there is no science in the claim hammers or any mono are as or more effective than lead core bullets. Actually, there is quite a bit to show fragmentation increases wounding/incapacitates more quickly if you follow wound ballistics science. The only study I have seen on game was the SC one where they clearly showed monos/tough bullets do not kill deer as quickly as the "ballistic tip" types. That is my personal experience with monos as well and why I dont use them unless want the extra penetration monos deliver.

Maybe hammers or some new designs are better but I have not seen it yet (1 hog which required a finisher with shoulder shot) nor do I take anecdotal internet testimony as "science" nor manufacters claims. So now you are asking hunters to trade off suffering in the animals they are trying to intentionally kill vs suffering in an animal they may unintentionally harm.

In any case, all you hear in these videos is hunters give nothing up using monos and a lot of folks who have used monos do not see it that way based on their field experience. Basically, If gonna say it is backed by science do the science not just science for what is convenient to your message.
