Varget and Retumbo

I had heard no retumbo until 2024 out of Australia

Varget is everywhere. You can
fall down in the woods and land on a jug.....

You cant beg, borrow, or steal retumbo. RL26 is also mostly unobtanium.

Plenty of H1000 around though.
Every other time you fall down in the woods you can land on a jug.

Plenty of powder over here, but not a primer in the country it seems.

All the primer companies we have left over here are owned by 1 company now. Except winchester.

Vista Outdoors owns Remington, Federal, and CCI.

Winchester not yet......but no one cried foul at an anti trust level. Monopoly on ammo and primers seems fine.

Lately, I have been trying Unis Ginex which has made primers since 1951 in Bosnia. They are available and cost less. So far they go boom every time.

Need to do some chrono testing too.

They do seem a little harder to seat in new brass.

I dont know if Australia has its own primer manufacturing or not? But you must speak to your politicians about making your own. Things are gonna get tough w China. You wont likely be able to get imports even then. I sure hope you have some plants there that can make primers and brass, bullets, and finished ammo. I know you have ADI for powder. But ocean going logistics are not going to work if we go at it w China. Then we will never see retumbo......or Varget.......

Each ally needs its own internal production in this crazy future we are approaching......globalism and global trade aint gonna be what it was in the 80s.

save your decapped primers and get ready to make your own if you have to.

Powder parn pic for da boyz.

Odd how it's distributed. I haven't been able to find Varget for months in Central TX (while many other powders returned to the shelves) but just happened on a 1 lb bottle at the Bass Pro in CO Springs last week. Or course, that was right after I got some from a friend.

ADI makes brass, powder and primers, as well as 5.56 and 7.62 ammo, but that is all. As a military supplier, that's their bread and butter along with 50BMG, 20mm and other large arm military ammo and rockets. I used to work there.
ADI is actually French owned if anyone cares.

Cheers.

I don't care either way tbh.

Theyre both on the list of powders I've decided not to bother trying and don't need. Overrated. I'm sure they are great but just…people lose their dang minds about them and the prices are nuts and then you see what people pay for them on auctions and such and you know what…THEY CAN KEEP IT!

H1000
Retumbo
Rl26
Varget

I think that's my list for now. I will admit, if I stumbled upon rl26 "in the wild" I would jump on it but I'm not actively trying to find or obtain it. Just too mental.

I know they may be a tad more temp sensitive (though not bad at all in my opinion and experience) - but I think right now I'm happy to just stick with what's working for me Regarding the slow burners which is "old reliable" imr 7828 ssc and rl25 and superformance (which in my experience is way slower than they say it is, but being a progressive burn rate double base it's hard to pin its behaviour down regardless) all three have been easier to obtain than retumbo or h1000, to say nothing of rl26, for me, especially off auctions or buying from private individuals, and they don't command quite as obscenely ridiculous a price. I like 'em. Though superformance doesn't smell good after it's been fired 🤣

I forget what burn rate varget is exactly but either way, for that medium-fast ballpark I've come to quite appreciate h380, leverevolution, and of course the mainstay h4350 for a bit slower rate and another old reliable, imr 4064 (which has produced some of the finest accuracy I've ever obtained in a few cartridges) on the faster end. I don't need varget!

I see Varget, H4350, H4831, US869, BM50, Benchmark, etc. all the time here.Somtimes H1000. Retumbo not lately but did about 5 months ago. I have enough Retumbo and H1000 to last me till I die. I have an 8 pounder and 1 pd. left of RL26. I haven't seen it in 3 years. Lots of other powders here. IMR and Winchester powders . A lot of W748 and even saw W760.
