Weatherby Fans & why?

A little nostalgia. While working for an uncle on the farm, we needed a part for the baler. While my uncle talked to the machinery dealer, I stood in front of the dealer's gun cabinet (he was also a Weatherby dealer) ogling the Weatherbys. It took me about fifty years to own an Accumark. Nice rifle, a little heavy but good weight for the 300 Wby.

It's one of those brands I've always wanted to like and man did they use to have some beautiful walnut stocks…but the radius shoulder cartridge design sucks, the 9 lug bolt design would never achieve 100% lug engagement and a lot of free bore tends not to lend itself to accuracy.

It just adds up to not for me because I think only accurate rifles are interesting.

You anti-Weatherby guys are a laugh. I had a 7Weatherby that could regularly put five of my Corbin home made bullets into 1/2" at 100 yards. I could do regularly 1" with five Nosler Ballistic Tips.

Hey, I just think the double radius shoulder looks cool. I really like the short bolt throw. And Come on man, the pictures of Roy Weatherby with the Duke or those of you that don't know, John Wayne, holding the MK V! Can't beat that for awesome.

We have three Weatherbys. All picked up in the last 18 months. First one was a Mark V Camilla in 6.5 cm. My wife loves it. Next was a 280 ai Backcountry Ti. This fit my needs for an ultralight gun. The last, another Camilla in 7mm-08 for my wife. This is a Vanguard. I wish they produced a 7mm-08 Camilla in a lightweight Mark V.

So my frustration with Weatherby is:
1) the limited offerings of non-weatherby cartridges in the various models.
2) As above, no Camilla Mark V in 7mm-08
3) I handload, but was not willing to go Weatherby cartridges for future family members that will have the guns. Want to hand the guns down to grandkids but not burden them with such limited manufactured ammo.

All three guns are still in break-in mode, but accuracy seems good. Mine are lightweight hunting rifles and I haven't tried any distance shooting. I anticipate 500 yards, depending on the gun and game animal, as max. My expectation is these guns fit our hunting needs and will be in the family for our grandkids to hunt with.

I didn't read all of the posts, but noticed one complaint of a sticky bolt. Yes, compared to my Tikkas and Fierce, so far they are stickier. I think they will smooth out with use.

Top reason to buy another Weatherby was the Camilla design. The Camillas, for my wife, are a real game changer. They fit her so well that I had to stay with that choice when I was looking for the 7mm-08. I was tempted on a few other brands, but I knew she loved her first Camilla. Just wish it was a lighter Mark V.

Even my 378 & 416 are sub 1"

I'm a to each is own, people say/do things to justify their liking of something else IMO. You don't have to justify why something isn't appealing to you. That's fine - I'm probably called a collector than fan, own many makes/models from 224 through 340. I have german, jap and USA model - wood and fiber stocked. To say I love Weatherby is an understatement. I have 6 kids - 4 of which are boys who I look to pass things down to.

257 Weatherby is my all time favorite and one of my favorite rifles to use is a ruger 1 - lol nostalgia I guess

Being a LH shooters I've acquired a few of those and I mix it up now, but if it's not a 257 it will most likely be a 240, in Texas white-tailed deer, antelope and small/medium sized exotic game don't need much more than that and I like taking pictures with pretty rifles!

My next Weatherby will be a 240 or 257 Luvvit Luvvit

I don't hate Weatherby's just giving my opinion on why I don't seek them out. It is absolutely great that they're made in America now instead of Japan. I wouldn't hesitate to own one if I came across a great deal on a Mark V Deluxe (American made of course) with that awesome walnut stock I'd be all over it.

But to spend over 2k on a new one that most likely won't shoot as good as a Remy or Savage is just dumb in my opinion.

Weatherby has accuracy guarantees on their rifles.
One can buy from their Vangard line which cost less, check them out!
Savage has rifles at 2k & above also
Browning has made many rifles out of country also
Would you own a Tiika? A Sako? They are Finnish

When i was younger, Weatherby's were something to hope to aspire to.
Way out of my price range!

I had bought my daughter a first gen Vangard in 243 Win.
Had major accuracy issues with it!
But was within their "3 shots within 1 MOA at 100 yard" guarantee.
Problem was any following shots.
Groups literally opened up exponentially.
Daughter traded it on a bow.
Only gun i was happy to get rid of!!!

Last year i had saved up enough that i wanted a Mark V.

Kept looking at their new Hunter.
But the more i handled them, the more i disliked the stock.

The LGS had a Mark V Ultra Lightweight in 6.5-300.
Loved the looks & feel.
Didn't want a 6.5mm.
Of course the Ultra Lightweight was discontinued.

Ended up with a Weathermark LT in 7mm WBY Mag.

Then....

Ran accross someone selling their Ultra Lightweight in 257 WBY Mag.
Bought it.
Awaiting shipment.

Then 3 seeks ago, i run accross a German made Mark V in "Weatherby 300 Magnum".
With engraved scrolling on the receiver for a price i couldn't pass up!
Wife approved money out of the joint account. I brought it home, handed to her & told her to put it in the safe.

So i went from no Weatherby's to 3 Mark V's in about 8 months.

Luv my Weatherby's! I've had just about all of them, now down to a 270 Bicentennial, a custom 7mm, and 2 340's, one deluxe and one custom. I have found that they are pretty easy to load for and with the reduced throats on the customs, are really accurate. My LPR 340 is my go to rifle for everything!

Although I own several other brands, Weatherbys are my favorite hunting rifle.
When Weatherby was in South Gate, I drove from Upland with my two brothers to purchase one for the first time in the mid 1980's. I bought a .378 and also a 30-'06 both Japanese Mark V guns. Guess I've hunted with them going on 40 years now? About 10 years later I bought my brother's .240, also a 9-lug Mark V and then around 2000 bought my other brother's .340 Mark V. The .340 and .378 both have factory muzzle brakes.

They are all 26" bbl except the .240. I handload for all of them to keep the cost of ammunition down and find the load each likes best. I have collected brass for years and have several hundred cases for each. For example, what I used to pay for Barnes 270 gr TSX bullets, primer and powder not counting the brass, I can make .378 Wby Mag rounds for about two bucks each instead of the outrageous store price for that ammo. Those 4 rifles fill all my needs for my the North American game I hunt and are excellent shooters.
