The Most DISSAPOINTING Bullet there ever was...

What the heck, pretty much most muzzleloading bullets. As powders improved, bullets didn't. It is so bad IMO, a couple years back tried 250FTX in TC yellow sabot and pleasantly surprised by accuracy. Vel was 2050 with BH209. Better minimal expansion vel too. Then first deer I killed was my 2nd biggest at 156-7/8, great terminal. So until it proves otherwise, looks like I will be using it.

In my limited experience and humble opinion the hornady SST is an amazing killer if used in the ranges and velocity it was designed for. I've killed a number of animals culling and besides the speer 6.5mm 140 seconds from midway it's the second best killer for culling 10 yds out to 500 yds. Light skinny framed goats approx 70-100 lbs out to 1,000+ lbs wild cattle. I never had one not work and I've even killed my biggest bull elk with a 30-06 and 165 gr SST. I took a second shot on an already dead animal to secure him while we made a slippery climb to him 300 ft down a gulch. This is my go to bullet for anything in Hawaii but each bullet has its limits and purposes. I don't use them in ULTRA VELOCITY 3200 FPS+ but they hold up excellent in normal conditions. Test book mushrooms up against the far side hide!! Aloha

Edit.. I use them today exclusively in my 243 win 95 gr SST, 257 +P 117 gr, 6.8 SPC 120 gr, 7mm-08 140 SST, 308 125 gr SST, 30-06 165 gr SST and 300 RCM 180 SST. They all shoot 1/2" or less and of course better bullets exist. I've lost animals but it was from human error. Up to 500 yds HORNADY SST KILL.
I like SSTs as well, seen them kill lots of critters. When I load for new hunters I recommend them, they are inexpensive and performance is very good. But you can't push them to hyper velocity.

I have fired a 25.06 rifle just one single time in my life. It was on a friend's ranch in west Texas using his rifle loaded with the Hornady Superformance 117 gr SST. We slipped within 100 yards of a big Aoudad ram standing broadside and I put one round right through his shoulders. Jay immediately told me that I would probably have to shoot him again due to their toughness, but the big ram just lay down and died.
Just goes to show how much one's mileage may vary.
I too shot an Audad ram with a small caliber. It was my .243 using 95 gr SST around 100 yds. I went to answer the call for nature and my buddies told me to take my rifle just in case. We were there maybe an hour before joking and laughing and I said "for what" every animal is in the next country" lol but luckily I did…. After a minute I started looking around because I didn't feel right… so I started glassing when I seen this shadow, that had a funny branch it was hooking!!! So I looked deeper like one of those puzzles with colored dots and then his image popped out!!! I took a squatting, off the knee shot and hit him perfect entering his left shoulder making jello of everything and exiting behind the far side back rib. He death run for 80 yds before we found him piled up in some trees dead. Massive damage for such a small bullet.

Anyways I wish I chosen a better taxidermist! Anyone have a salted or tanned cape? I would be interested in buying one. Thanks brothers!! Aloha

Muddy with much respect, as I genuinely enjoy and listen to your comments and read with vigor just like others from here. But this is where I may finally can contribute back to you.

2 options.

1. Regular BP rifles. Using BH 209 and the like. Check out these. Dead Center Bullets. By farrrr. The best regular muzzleloing bullet I have ever used. Converted so many locals to these in my area I must be keeping these guys in business. Average tracking Distance has got to be under 5 yards for lots and lots of deer put in my freezer.

2 modern smokeless Muzzleloaders bullets I am kinda of new at it and have only 1 deer so far but give Pittman bullets a try. Impressive is an understatement.

The one bullet I don't touch or own in my over 15k bullet collection is the Hornady SST. Had a few bad experiences with the 117 grain out of my 25-06 and sent them down the road. I didn't even save them for the coyotes for whatever reason. I have other Hornady bullets, eld-m, eld-x, interlock, interbond, etc but no SST's.
Maybe it's the caliber is what your problem is. 140gr .277 SST bullets out of Hornady Superfromance ammo has been very accurate and effective for me. I have had my best run of hunting success on Coues bucks with the 270 SST, 12 bucks in 12 years and every bullet worked from 60 yards to 320 yards.

I may be able to come up with a cape for you.... I'd just have to check with some buddies. My ranch doesn't have Aoudad, just a butt load of Axis deer.
I may even be making a trip to Hawaii before too long. My fiance and I have discussed it.

Why do I feel like death threats are going to be issued due to this thread? 😂
Heavily Biased People, form,.. Lynch Mob's ,.. Maybe ?
For Me, I've had mostly good results with, MOST of, the Bullet's that, I've used over, MANY Years !
Being a solid, Nosler Partition "Fan",.. I was formerly against, Berger Hunting Bullets, NOW, after actually,.. USING them,.. I Love em'
Have had, "Good" Results with, Hornady Interlock's, Sierra GK's, Nosler Partition's & Ballistic Tip's, Horn ELD-X's, and recently, Berger Classic's !
Shoot WHAT, "Works" for,. you ! Just be SURE to,.. TEST, it !
My most "Disappointing Bullet" was, a Regular, AccuBond ( Didn't seem to Expand much, on My Elk ! ) BUT,. millions of Hunters,.. LIKE , them !!

Hornady monoflex bullets in 45 caliber. Couldn't get them to fly minute-of-paper regardless of powder/powder charge.
Honorable mention goes to Lil gun powder.
Hi 👋 Lil Gun saved my Ruger 77 22 Hornet 🐝 from leaving my collection. I free floated the barrel, shimmed the bolt, new trigger & hammer still not satisfactory. Tried lil gun and wow did the groups tighten
