For some reason they really don't like a long freebore. They don't like the thought of have big a long free bore then running out of room as the throat wears. I myself take the approach to turn and burn and keep the barrel makers in business while getting all I can out of a rifle.

Yeah that seems to be their mindset for sure! I honestly don't shoot enough to worry about it either way. I mean realistically after load development I might shoot 20 a year or so
I shot probably 60 rounds yesterday and 40 this evening. 4 different rifles

Everyone to talk to with a 30 Nosler says not to use SAAMI if at all possible though
That's insane, but awesome lol. I don't have enough powder or primers for that
If you get away from saami and get the COAL's out to 3.6 or more then you have a perfect 30 cal in my opinion. I have a barrel for my Zeus that shoots 215's at 3,150 fps or so. The freebore is long enough I'm going to play with the 245's in it also.
SAAMI severely handicaps the Nosler cartridges. They do better in a magnum length action.

I'd be looking for somewhere in the .200-.220" freebore. From those who have extensive experience with the 30 Nos and 215/230 Bergers this is the freebore length they have had the best luck with in their testing.

Appreciate all the responses! I think I'm going to tell them to use the 230 Reamer if it is in between .200 and .220 and call it good.
Is there any harm in doing this? Does it cost barrel life or anything?

Ordered a modified case for more exact measurements. The ol color the bullet and see if it will chamber method about gave me a stroke last night. No real data to report til the modified case gets here

I had JGS do my reamer for my 30 Nosler.
I set my freebore up for the Berger 210 VLDH. With the boat tail / bearing surface junction at the neck / shoulder junction, this gives me ~0.170" freebore (actually a tad shorter than that based on how JGS does there drawings - too much trouble to explain here), with the bullet just touching the lands.
The Berger 215 has an even shorter bearing surface than the 210 VLDH, and would have less bullet in the case neck to touch the lands.
My 30 Nosler shoots very well with my chamber specs. Only way I'd go longer freebore is if I shot a longer bullet.

By looking at that I would say I would want a .210 FB based on looking at theirs and the bearing surface of .510" of the 210. 215's being shorter a .200 FB and with the 230's a .230". It's just my personal preference. Their diagram measurements are little misleading.
