Also if I may add, one is a custom rifle, and one is a factory rifle. Yes it may be a very high quality factory rifle, but the attention to detail, the options, the customization, and overall quality from rifle to rifle is going to be superior when you have a custom rifle built. No hate towards the Weatherby at all, but a custom rifle whether from us or any of the top level smiths and gun builders in this country on average will be the better rifle.

Hijack! Time for a hijack! Where do you get your stocks? What would be the lightest you would go with for a .338 RUM? Do you ever use Christensen carbon barrels?

I like the 6.5 Weatherby RPM and the Weatherby Backcountry 2.0 rifle.
That rifle is likely THE best mountain rifle on the market.
1.) titanium action
2.) carbon fiber stock
3.) Trigger Tech trigger
4.) carbon fiber tensioned barrel (the best way to do a CF barrel for consistent accuracy)
5.) spiral fluted bolt (lightens bolt and provides a place for ice, dirt & debris to go and stay out of the bolt path)
6.) radial muzzle brake
Those features in a custom rifle would cost many thousands more than the Backcountry 2.0.
Disclaimer: I have a 6.5 PRC Browning X-Bolt Pro that is "one step down" in features from the Backcountry 2.0 but still a fairly advanced mountain/long range rifle. The Weatherby is what I'd call state-of-the-art at this time. I'm partial to 3 lug bolts and light (accurate) rifles.

I got my hands on nne of the first reamers available and just used a 7mm pilot to build mine.i have 4 different ones now on that cartridge and I love them. The same or better performance of their belted magnum brothers but you gain an extra round in the chamber. Win-win!

The RPM case is unique and cannot be formed from a parent case. We tried. If someone has it figured out, let us know. Now that Peterson is making brass, I see no need to look into forming from anything. Neck it up or down and run with it.

Sorry, I beat you to it and it's so close to my 300 Win mag it ain't funny. I just went with rechambering a new 700 Rem 30-06. It does have a 25" barrel. I've picked up every piece of 6.5 RPM brass I could find since it came out. I think I have about 350 pieces and have a 270, 7mm, 30, 8mm and 35 that I've built on the case. Looking hard at the 338 now but I really don't have a need, just an extra barrel laying around.

I have one that duplicates the 8mm RPM. I get 3,054 feet per second with the Hammer Hunter 198 grainer and 3,120 with the Hammer Shock hammer. The rifle weighs 7 1/4 pounds ready to go. It's based on the Weatherby Mark V ultralight with a 24" barrel with a .650" muzzle.
Recently I was thinking I need to buy one of the Back country 2.0 Ti. I think it should be rebarreled to .35 before it is even fired.

Funny how weatherby states "magnum" in the rpm. Nothing magnum about it! Magnum in terms of a 7-08? .213" longer case body with .500" dia is far from magnum status. Still could be a good cartridge? .228" case body longer than the 6.5x284, but still no magnum. Have fun and hope it turns out good for you!
