Brakes vs recoil

Hi guys

There is a very interesting discussion going on down in the classifieds. Its all about a rifle that every who has had the pleasure of shooting it agreed on one thing--it was nasty. Now don't get me wrong it was shootable, but fun it was not. It shot well considering, but ya had to work at it.
Anyhow, I been following Nathan's listing--even added to it a couple times. I find it very interesting the different opinions of the various brakes on the market. I have shot rifles with the AccuBrake by Wby, the KDF brake, Vias brake, the DE brake and a few others. To me they are a great aid to accuracy but I have never noticed much difference between them. I have never shot a rifle with a Holland brake on it.
With that said I would like to post a pic of the day I got this rifle with the new Hart barrel chambered in 338-300.

What do you see guys.

I don't see any blood on the eyepiece.

Look's like an effective Defensive Edge brake and a Zeiss Conquest on a nice looking rifle.

I replied to nathan's post and I have not shot to many rifles with brakes but the ones I have reduced recoil a good bit the Holland seems to do a beter job. I have not tried but three types of muzzle brakes and they were the Holland,vias, and a factory savage. I work with some people that think a 7mm Rem mag kicks to hard. My self and my best friend both like hard kickers I think that some people are more recoil sensitive than others. These are my experiances and opinions.

Phil nice looking rifle, first thing that comes to my mind is my god what a rest. That thing looks awsome. I sent the gun off to Darrell yesterday for one of his radial brakes. It will probably be wednesday before it gets, there i didnt ask him how long it would take thought that would be rude considering how busy most smiths are, I am sure they get asked that enough.

Any way, when i get it back yall will be the first to here how it does. Hopefully it will be alittle more fun to shoot. Keepin my fingers crossed.

Looks like one ofr our brakes, you find it very effeicent and easy to clean aqs well. The blank area on the bottom prevents dirt and debris from blowing around the shooter and helps eliminate muzzle rise. The oval ports also produce less noise and concussion back at the shooter.

All brakes are machined and heat-treated for long life.

Attn. All gunsmiths, if you haven't tried a Holland Triple Baffle Quick Discharge muzzle brake now is the time. Give the girls a call and have them send you a gunsmith sample at a reduced price to testing and evaluation. You can't beat a deal like that!!!!

That's actually my rest, and my ugly mug in the picture. I need to teach Phil how to crop and color correct his pictures.
It's a one piece custom rest, with a removeable center section to keep it legal for light gun competition.

Quite expensive, but you get what you pay for..

Hey Joel good to here from ya, thats one awsome rest and i would imagine it is pretty expensive. What do you think about my decision on the brake do you think it will help or not.

When we spoke about the rifle, I remember telling you that it shot well, but just a bit more recoil than Phil liked. The rifle originally had the brake in the picture at the beginning of this thread, I seem to recall it's a DE brake. After a few rounds, I took it off and installed a Vias. Seemed to help a little, but still was a bit stout for my pansy assed friend Phil.
I'm sure if you install a large baffle type brake, it will tame it down quite a bit. I've shot quite a few rifles with the Holland brake, and they seem to work well. It's worth the few dollars to try that combination. I think you made a wise decision.

Ah - ha!. I thought it looked like a DE brake. I'd have thought there would have been less felt recoil with that brake than the Vias brake.
