Just sitting here this morning waiting to spill my bean meal off and I suddenly realized that I haven't heard nary a word about a a carbon ring or needing a bore scope to be a really serious shooter in quite a while, it was the rage a year or so ago.
No more carbon rings?

I like using my borescope to see how well I cleaned my barrel and compare how it looked new vs now. I don't put penis rings on my guns though...why would anyone do that? will it improve performance???

You found one of my pet peeves. It was absolutely ridiculous that it seemed every chambering problem that showed up on these site was assumed to be a carbon ring issue. Most responders immediately screamed carbon ring before questioning the fundamentals of case sizing. I can't help but wonder how many were actually carbon ring issues?

Although I have subscribed to the incremental improvement approach in business and my hobbies, there are some practices that become a obsessive and IMO do not provide a return on investment. Worrying about carbon ring is one of them. I could list several practices, but don't want to derail.

I have been sneaking around and swiping carbon rings and selling it to the people who manufacture carbon fiber for stocks and barrels. Like the guys that are stealing catalytic converters.

A carbon ring only exists in rifles that are owned by shooters who also own a bore scope. If you don't own/use a bore scope, you've got nothing to worry about.

A couple of twists of a pistol bronze bristle brush in the neck do wonders. This keeps the issue of a carbon ring a non-issue.

Chasing accuracy is a hobby within a hobby, the Mechanics/ fundamentals do not suit all personalities while others just do not have the time. Remember, it is just a hobby, have fun.

Carbon rings makes me laugh!
I had a service tech come to the shop to do some warranty work and he needed some brake cleaner.
I ran down to the NAPA store and hustled back. When I gave it to him he plastered the inside of the bag and inhaled like a pro!!!
I was dumbstruck. My brain couldn't handle watching him hahaha

I have a teslong bore scope--- I use it occasionally ( as that was my intention was to just have it for when I need/want it)

Just the other day i used it-- I bought a new charred white oak barrel for aging bourbon and wanted to look inside the barrel to make sure it was charred properly. ..see bore scopes and carbon all in one post !!

My 25-284 gets a carbon ring. It will start showing ejector marks with a proven load and accuracy goes to crap. I have to stay on top of it every 30-40 rounds to avoid this but it always seems to re accumulate.
