Seriously......I've bought many expensive items from members here....had them all sent usps...to a local office....
General Delivery....with tracking...priority mail....nothing lost..........usually delivered on time or ahead of delivery date....
And yet the usps lost the item. And yet myself and another member on here have experienced the usps losing packages only to have them show up months late. And yet another member on here has had painful experiences dealing with trying to get the usps to pay the insurance in cases where the item delivered was damaged. It would have been worse had the item never showed. So yes, seriously.

I almost forgot. Back in 2010, my brother decided to move back to the lower 48 from Alaska. He had around 23 rifles that he needed to ship. The usps was the only carrier that did not require an FFL as long as he mailed the rifles to himself. He paid to insure them and track them and shipped them through the usps. Within 2 weeks, the rifles started arriving. After a month, most had arrived. He had tracking on the remaining but the usps tracking system at that time was a joke. They had no idea where they were. They told him to come back in a month if he still had not gotten them. He came back a month later and filled out the insurance claim paperwork. They told him they would need receipts for the rifles to prove their value and he would need pictures of the rifles in the cases in which they were shipped. Not all of the rifles were purchased from dealers so he did not have all the receipts and he did not know he had to take pictures of the rifles. He did have serial numbers. They basically told him they would not pay him anything. Fortunately, over the next month or so, the remaining rifles arrived.

So again, yes, seriously.

Taking a look how stuff is handled at various stops with FedEX, UPS & USPS with huge rooms, multiple conveyor belts, chutes, bins & ... It's a wonder how any item can survive to arrive for timely possession. Some of my items arrived weeks later & looked like they went thru a cement mixer. I avoid shipping stuff at Christmas.

I know we are all looking forward to putting this one behind us.

It is unfortunate when posts and threads disappear. While I don't agree with censorship, in this case I think @Len Backus acted admirably given the difficult situation.

Moderation is often a thankless task. I have been frequenting discussion forums since they were called 'news groups' (last century), and have to some extent 'seen it all'.

When contributors get emotional, things can get ugly, and without a referee tensions can really escalate.

I can't be bothered to dig up he deleted thread referenced by the OP, but from my recollection, some veiled threats were made, and it really wasn't a good look for the forum.

Thank you Len for your tireless efforts holding every member here to a standard of civility.

We can't always choose our circumstances, but how we respond is up to the individual.

For me the takeaway here is;

Keep it classy

I hope I'm not the only one who sees it that way!

Actually it depends on the Incoterms used in the contract.
Let's not play games. If you want to use the classifieds then stand behind what you're selling. Word games make things messy. The item arrives in the described condition, no different than if you bought it from Amazon. If you don't want that responsibility then don't sell on the classifieds, or only sell FTF.

Nice thought, unfortunately that's not how I interpret the guidelines here.

Think for a second, how is a free classifieds service going to enforce that? Where will the resources come from.

'buyer beware' is stated explicitly.

Can I offer some humble caution? It doesn't always work out to beat the emotional drums of others when you don't know the song or the full story. Well-meaning and good people get in trouble this way. If we're not privy to all the facts first-hand, but have sincere concerns, we can send a private message to admin, or take personal note rather than raise a riot. This is how threads and issues run out of control. 🤝🖖

That's how it SHOULD operate, especially if you have a conscience. This is coming from someone that's refunded 2 different people for lost items that were not my fault. Like I said earlier, if a few bucks is worth your good name then you're in a sorry state. (Not directed at you of course).

Michael , doesn't it come down to the "terms" agreed upon? Not how you think it SHOULD be? Usually when someone yells "this is the way it SHOULD be" I think about my So.Dakota friend.;)

I can sell items all day long with my terms since I'm the one selling and offering a item. PP FF, Venmo etc....
Buyer to pay shipping...
Seller to pay shipping...
Buyer to cover added insurance...
Seller to cover added insurance...
Buyer holds item(s) until money order arrives etc.... the list of terms goes on and on.
If terms weren't clarified its both their dang faults.

Terms/Contracts keep friends friends!

From what I can tell in this scenario is terms weren't defined. Then an unexpected unknown happens?

I guess in the end we can do whatever we want. I just won't do business with anybody that plays games.

Looks like we should request pictures of the goods sold with any serial numbers or identifying marks along with a bill of sales.....or just avoid USPS all togeher
