300 Norma Mag Improved. Follow along!!!

I've heard several of the exact same reports also!
so for me I use either accubond's or hammer for 400 and in and the 215 or 230 from there on out with the usual berger prep for reliable expansion

It's easy for me too lug a 10 pack of berger medicine around and a 10 pack in my pack of bonded thunder smashers and the mag loaded with them also while packing in .. if the situation calls for it there is more than enough time too throw a berg in!

Definitely makes sense. Anything at a long distance should have ample time for the switch!

I just don't know if it's necessary for a muley. I shot a big one at 30 yards with a 195 Berger going 3030fps. He didn't stomach it well. And I don't believe a 225 would be any worse haha.

Wanted to see how the bullets did switching back and forth yesterday evening. 700 yards with a decent crosswind. Shot 3 with the 225 ELDM, then 3 with the Hammers, then just one ELDM to see if it effected POI after shooting the hammers. Basically to bring the Hammers down to center I just have to change the sight in distance to 225 yards instead of 100. BUT, I then went to shoot 1236 yards and already forgot to switch my profile back to the ELDM's lol. Elevation would have been perfect too :(. So it already bit me in the *** haha. Looks like it's easily doable to switch back and forth. But I probably won't honestly. Just because it's one more thing to mess up during crunch time. But they both shot good!

I thought about switching back and forth too but I guarantee I would mess that one up. One more thing to mess up is too much for me.

the way I do it is very simple. i check both loads too say 500 and that's where I limit the "hunting bullet"

my RF and back up APP both have my 215 or 230 berger load always loaded, I do not change back and forth.

if I want to play around to just see at 1200 yards I build an easy app on my phone and mark it as such.

They have such similar impacts out to the 400-450 range that I intend on using the "hunting bullets" at that I dont need to switch back and forth.

Its rather simple if you keep it simple!!

that's also why i shoot the same or near same weight of bullets so they are as close as possible

Dual loading can be intimidating at first, but so can making a wind call on a 1000 yard shot. It's good to practice both a lot.

Before I had a Revic BR4 RF with a built in ballistic calculator I would always have my profile pulled up on my phone for my long range load ready to go. And usually have my drops for my hammer/close range load that is lighter and faster written down on a small piece of paper in my chest jacket pocket for shots 500 and under. But when the 500 and under shots have been presented, Ive never had to pull out that piece of paper because I practice enough that I have them memorized.

I always have my rifle zeroed for the long range load. And although my 500 and under load is 1" higher than my Long range loads zero I don't have to change my zero between the two because my drops for the short range load are recorded with the short range load POI left at 1" higher than my long range loads zero.

Got some N570 temp data today from my 300 RUM 227 grain HH 3,005 fps 5 shot ES of 14 previous load was 91.0 grains WLRM primer, took an elk at 987 yards a season ago but I started a new lot of primers and the velocity picked up about 50 fps and the ES went way up, could be the barrel speeding up too but 215M brought the ES way down so I switched to those. It's hot here(over 100F) so I put some in the cooler and shot some at ambient temp measured with a Hong Kong Freight laser thermometer and shot at 500 yards, the TT 5-25x handled the mirage pretty well. Three to five minutes between shots running a barrel fan to help cool it.
Top left 90.5 at 38F 3,051 3,052, 3,048 average 3,050
Top right 91.0 at 38F 3,070 3,061 3,059 3,063
Bottom left 90.5 at 94F 3,087 3,066 3,095 ejector 3,083 56F = + 33FPS
Bottom right 91.0 at 96F 3,126 big fat ejector, stopped 3,126 58F = + 63 fps

It has been very accurate and easy on brass at the ~3,000 speed so I'm going to go lower to get back there, 91 grains is a full case, slight crunch at just under 4" COAL. Looks like it's going to be 100F here for the next week so I will bring the cooler again as it seems I'm always hunting elk in the snow.
Most powders are temp stable until they get to the higher temperatures then they really shoot up in pressure , N570 isn't wicked but it isn't H1000 for sure, this is the first I've I've shot it over 82F and the biggest jump I have seen and it may do better with less than a full case.
FYI

Yup, and you will likely be shooting elk in the snow again this year on our late season hunt!
