Shooting Steel

Sometimes we can be surprised.

3/8" plate on a T-post at 250 yards vs Weatherby 6.5 RPM, 140 grain Sierra Game King at 3035 FPS.

Never say never...

AR500 cut with a waterjet put it no closer than 200yds and keep velocity under 3000fps for impacts and it will last a long time. Don't shoot it with 5.56 at 100. Stuff that's cut with heat can cause it to be weaker around the edges. I have an ar500 8inch circle that I picked up for $20 from a local gunstore and a 300 wm 190 smk punched through the corner at 300yds. My 33% size ipsc steel which was water cut has had zero issues.

720 yards; 3/8' farn disc; shooting 300 WM with Berger 190 or 210 VLD; easily punched holes through on every shot.
Edit....Old Demons creeping out....see my previous previous posts with a 3/16" disc. I'm sure 3/8" thick are made some place....never seen a 3/8 plow disc in my life.

I have AR500 steel targets 12" x 12" that we hang at 300, 400, 500, 600 yards and they handle everything we shoot at them. Just throw a little paint on them and away we go for the next round. Shooting up to 300 PRC

I go with 20x20 inch hardox=70€ here . And I not use chain . On pic u see 6mm steel plate. Non penetrating was lapua scenar 250gr. The holes are 250 gr Barnes tsx .

I bought a defense targets B/C steel probably 10 years ago. I've shot it with everything and have potato chipped it back and forth a couple of times now. Most of the pock marks are from some magnetic 7.62x39 once and 5.56 inside of 100. I've shot it with a 416 Rem mag at 50 yards and 45-70 repeatedly with no ill effects. With the 416 the bolts will break after 5-6 shots but the strike face is smooth. 3/8ths thickness. Legit AR-500 will be fine. Speed is the enemy of steel.
