I am not a brake fan, but considering one on my next build. I want some of the advantages without the deafening shockwave as I'm not very likely to earplug, though I'll try. I want the majority of the blast to go about 35-60*, 0* being the bore. What are some things to consider?

a few years ago , I remember a company advertising their brake as a quiet brake . I can't remember their name or if it was a radial , or side port . I know this isn't much to go on .
The quiet brake is a radial brakes (holes all around like the Vais brake) made by Gentry (https://gentrycustom.com/) here in MT. There us nothing quiet about it. Radial brakes are the least effective brakes I have.

I believe, Seekin's makes, a "Quiet" Brake,.. IIRC
I like Effective, 90* Ports with, Holes on Top,.. like, the Tubb brake.
Surprisingly, the Witt Machine, Clamp on's, work pretty good and not bad, in the "Noise" Dept, either !

I'm running a vias radial on a 9 pound 30 nosler. From the field including prone its ample. From the bench where you're trying to dial in a load it's a handful.

I've shot a couple I'd magnum rifle with a harrels radial which rear angled ports. Much more effective with an increased muzzle blast as compared to the vias.

another one you might want to check on is from muzzle brakes and more . I've read a couple of times he is making , or has made , a brake that is BR legal . the guys shooting beside a braked rifle get pounded by the blast . he has supposedly figured out a way to avoid this . he might have them listed on his website . this could be something like you're looking for .

Least effective 1 port tank brakes.
Trust me you are gonna want ears after your first shot.
Even with a suppressor I wear ears. Sonic crack is loud enough to want protection.
Target shooting bench/prone don't need top port to keep muzzle down.
If hunting and will do quick follow up shots a few top ports are nice to drive muzzle down.
