Hey whats up guys !!

I got gifted by my girlfriend a Browning Xbolt Long range chambered in 300 rum, I mounted it with a vx6 4x24x52 leupold scope. Im having a hard time getting a good group, tried the sirocco 180gr, the eldx 220gr, the corelokt 180gr and neither shoots well, these are all factory amunition, getting groups 2 to 3 inch at 100 yards and 4 to 6 inch at 200yards.

Its after that I realised that the twist rate is 1/8 !!! im not a pro but did some research on the net and saw that an 1/8 twist in a 300 rum i should go 230gr and beyond.

My last rum was a 1/10 twist remington, so never had to deal with this...

Being from Montreal, Canada bullets supply are hard to find so i think im going to have to reload my own bullets which is something new for me or sell the gun and get my girl ****ed at me for a couple of weeks :)

I know there is the new A-Tip bullets 250gr from hornady, should i go with it ? but is it good for hunting too ?

Did any of you had experience with 300 rum Xbolt long range ? or do you guys have any tips ?

Thanks !!

There is really no need to run a heavier bullet than 200g in your rifle just because it has a 8" twist.
The inaccuracy you're experiencing is not from the twist rate.
You are going to have to find a load it likes and buy some from the same lot.
It may take a few boxes of factory to figure this out.
Look at any with Accubonds, they normally shoot quite well in fast twist barrels.
Let us know how you get on with it.

Cheers.

I forgot to mention I am having really good accuracy in my 300 RUM with Barnes 165g TTSX and 180g TTSX so far. Normally I would handload, but can't get dies, so until then, I'll be running the 180g TTSX factory loads for deer hunting.

Cheers.

10". Twist has very little to do with influencing accuracy.
You just need to find a factory load that works. I bought some of those 190g LRX bullets to try, you may be better off with the new 200+g LRX.

Cheers.

There is the new 212gr lrx made for a 1/8'' but the problem is the lenght of the bullet will be 4,25'' when a normal round should be 3.6''. So it will not even fit my magazine :(

Agree with what you're saying 100%. Overstabilization is generally not an accuracy killer the way under stabilization is….

Just stick with the 190g LRX, I have not tested mine yet, next outing will tell me if they're worthwhile.

Cheers.
