Trying to find a load for the 6.5 cm. So far I have tried the IMR 4831 powder loaded with 41 grains. It shot pretty good in the gun but I recently read that this is a slower shooting powder. The gun(a browning hells canyon with 22in barrel). The velocity is 2620 so I really didn't want to go lower that. I have also tried the h4350 with 40.8 grains and had a decent group but wasn't as good as the IMR 4831. Any load suggestions? Shooting the 143 Eldx bullet. Thanks!

What bullet you using? I have 120tsx goin right around 2985 with superformance and 2950 with Staball 6.5.

I'm certainly not the end all in regards to the 6.5 CM but I'll tell you what I know from loading for 3 different 6.5 CM's. H4350 is the gold standard for powder, followed by Reloder 16, Staball 6.5, Reloder 17, Varget (lighter bullets), Superformance amongst others. If any of the Hornady bullets in the 140gr-147gr will not shoot well after load developement with these powders, then there's an issue. Try the 143gr ELDX or the 140gr ELDM and you'll fins a good load.

2620 is pretty slow. Imr 4831 definitely isn't ideal but it should produce better speeds than that. 41 grains definitely doesn't seem close to pressure in that case. Have you worked up to pressure?

How did you pick those charge weights? To get any idea how a powder shoots, I would split the range of charge weights 5 ways and load up fo 2-5 shot groups. 5 groups of 5 at your max oal. That max can be into the lands, off the lands, Mag length,…..your choice.

People say 2-3 round groups don't tell you much, and I agree…..but if you can't get 2 rounds under your goal, shoot 25 more won't tighten it up!

Exactly! I helped a non reloading friend and we worked IMR4831 up to 43-43.5 gr range with his Tika SS LW. It shot 1/2 to 3/4" groups. He wanted to use IMR4831 as that s his only rifle powder for 243, 270, 270 WSM, 7RM and now 6.5CM. He's happy as a clown. I d recommend working up in .3-.5 gr increments. Hopefully you have access to a chronograph also; that ll help. Out of a 22" barrel if I started seeing 2700 ish FPS I d say you re there; or stop in you encounter pressure signs prior to that.

Good luck.
