308 kicked @$$

The deer are mostly 110 to 210 lb range, furthest shots will be about 250 yds.
My TC 6 creed pistol braced with a folder and break'd is super mellow. Running a 110 A tip at 2560. Run electronic hearing pro and you can hear with enhancement.

If you are handloading, just reduce the load, use 125-130gr bullets, etc. I use a 130 TTSX in my 308, and it works very well for the shorter ranges. Also, I have used the 125 NAB in reduced 308 and 30-30AI handgun loads. Also, you can use a 150 RN 30-30 bullet or a 150 Ballistic Tip with a reduced velocity load for softer recoil. There are several ways to reduce the recoil of a heavy kicking handgun and still be very effective on deer size game.

Also, there are a few factory loads in reduced recoil with a 125gr bullet or so.

I use a BOG pod death grip when I shoot my .308 Savage striker pistol. It pretty much does away with any felt recoil/muzzle flip. That gun has a factory muzzle brake that is adjustable so you can open or close it. You may want to take a look at the BOG. I have owned both versions of it, first the aluminum one and now the carbon one. They are both good, but the carbon is about a pound lighter is all, makes it a little easier to carry while hunting. Works great for steadying a rifle for long shots as well.
I try to hunt as light as possible due to several back sergeries

I use the Walker ear enhancement ear pieces that fit in my ear and block out gunshots. They let me hear the deer and protect my hearing.

Why don't you try those?

I thank all of you for adding to the post. I'm a disabled vet. my limitations are limited ,God I love being in the woods though. I was coming up out of our tank when the hatch closed on my hands, several surgeries there, when I finally got the hatch off my hands the pain was so great, I fell backwards and landed on the 105mm cannon, more surgeries. It's been rough but I still managed to get to the woods

Well I put a brace on the 308 barrel, it still kicks like a mother. As for a muzzle break, I can't afford to lose any more of my hearing (according to wife) so I'm looking for a trade in 7-08 or 243. Thank you'll
Not trying to change your mind, but shooting a rifle, even a 22 rimfire, without ear protection, does permanent hearing damage. Do not shoot without protecting your ears. So in that case by all means install a brake. Can also use electronic ear muffs if want to hear and also protect.

I'm going to look into those, but it's kinda like shutting the barn door after the cow gets out lol

That looks like my brace but the recoil was just too much
Understand and that's why I'm making a suggestion on possible caliber change. I'd def running a light bullet in the 308 to tame the recoil. Deer aren't hard to kill at those ranges. Me, I'd be all over a 6mm or even a 223. I chose the 6mm for a touch more umph at long range for wolves, but I am also looking at 700-800 yards are reasonable distances with the pistol.
