Been off the site for awhile (been busier than a one-legged man at an arse kicking contest) but I need to start a new thread tonight and rant a little. Bear with me and if you have a "black gun", don't shoot me.

Ok, here's the scenario:
I'm at the local shooting range today and it's saturday so it's open to the public. I usually try to avoid the public days and just go when I'm the only one there but I'm so busy I had to go today. So anyhow, I'm hogging three benches on the leftish side of the range. I've got my own custom $3000 dollar rifle and $1000 rest setup one one bench along with $2000 worth of reloading gear, barrel coolers, powder throwers and other miscelaneous gear on one bench. Then I have a two clients rifles totaling $3000 or better set up on the other two benches. Now, I know it sounds piggish taking up three benches but there were 7 others that were empty off and on all day and even during the busiest hours, there was always at least one bench open. And I was working on all three at the same time waiting for barrels to cool so it wasn't like they were just sitting on the bench not being shot.

Ok, so I said I set up on the "leftish" side of the range. This means that there were two benches to my left and 5 open benches to my right. Well, I guess I should have set up on the farthest left bench because I came to find out that this was Black Saturday. Of the 20 some odd people that showed up to shoot today, more than half of them had AR15's. Of those 11 or 12 guys, 10 of them had to set up on the bench left of mine. Now, as you probably know, AR's fling brass out the right side. I take that back. They fling HOT AS HELL brass out the right side. And wouldn't you know, it never occurs to these black gun shooters what happens to the guy (and/or gear) to the right of them when they pull the trigger. Well, almost never. THere was one guy out of the 11 or 12 that took one look at my spread and set up right of me. The rest just kept flinging brass onto myself and gear until I finally had to request that they either get a brass catcher or move benches. They looked at me like I was from Mars. Brass catcher? What's that? Are you nuts? Can't you just deal with it? Well, no, I can't. Why should I? It's their responsibility to keep the range clean and the range safe just as much as mine. It's also common courtesy to be aware of your surroundings and fellow shooters on the range and not spit hot brass at them or their equipment. I had more coin on the benches with me than all their **** lead sprayers put together and it never occured to them that I might not want to have brass "tingging" off of any of it!

ANyways, after some edjumicating of the black gun enthusiasts, the rest of the day went ok as they found a new home on the right benches.

Now I have nothing against "black guns". I have shot many of them and know they have their place(it's on the right). I would even own one if I wasn't left handed and could stand to have my shooting finger hand so far down from the center of gravity. But I am and I can't so I don't have one. But IF I DID, I would spend the $20 to get a brass catcher and even then I would try to be on the right of other shooters even if all they had was a 10-22 and a Tasco spotting scope.

Ok, I'm done with the ranting. I just hope those of you here who own semi-autos take this to heart and be aware if you aren't already. Have a great day!

According to the English dictionary, the word inconsiderate means:

"careless of the rights or feelings of others"

You'll find folks like that everywhere. Thank goodness some of them realize their wrong and do the right thing. I'm glad that was your case. Diccionary also say the ranting means: to utter in a bombastic declamatory fashion. It has to be a relief and I guess it was good for you to do the ranting! :D

Take Care!

You are a lot politer than me.

I offered to kill the guy with an AK47 if one more piece hot commie brass landed on me. He moved his *** elsewhere. The Walter Mitty's of the world must see something different in the mirror than what I see. A pair of black fatigues, a Harley T-shirt and a earring don't really impress me.

We live in the "it's all about me" society and they think that it is always someone elses responsiblity

I hear ya cluckin GG! I find that more often than not the guys with those AR's who are flinging brass don't have the common sence to realize that their brass is going somewhere it shouldn't be. Ya cant' fix stupid! lol But, at the range I shoot at, most of them are very considerate. I'm a little lucky cuz I shoot at the range that is right behind DPMS Panther Arms, so there are many many black rifles there and most of the shooters really know what they are doing.

I've seen that sort of thing and also been irritated by them ,for some reason ''they'' do tend to gravitate towards the black rifles or ak's.

Two guys [looked like bums] came out to a public range about a year ago with an ar15 type rifle with the vertical handgrip in front.
Believe or not they had a couple of boxes of ''wolf ammo''.
Instead of waiting for the range to go 'cold' -they just walked out down the edge of the range about 25yds and started waiving their arms ,--waayyyy funny.
We shut it down for the two clowns -they got their targets up -got set up to shoot -one kept telling the other which target was his and to not shoot other peoples target.
By now i realized they were or had been drunk ,both had cigarettes hanging off their lip and finally fired a shot -one of them just sat there after the shot making a ghoulish drunk laugh for about 30 seconds.
I just sat there and laughed while watching them ,then i decided to look down range at their targets they were holdind about an 18" group at 100yds , and i noticed a couple of bullet holes in my target.
So to have a little fun -i aimed 1.5" low at 'their' bullseye and shot a five shot group on the ghoulish laughing guys target with my 22-250 -i'd guess it to have been a .6" group. You should have heard the laughing and carrying on when we went down to put up more targets -i complimented him on some awesome shooting...
He told his friend -it just took him a minute to get warmed up --sooo funny.

Another time at a range in georgia -three black clothes wearing- black gun shooting rambo wannabees were shooting rapid fire and hit a house right through the front door -the owner came to complain.
The range owner told them what they did and had caused him a lot of trouble [news team showed up immediately] .
-NO rapid fire shooting he told them then one of the rambos started mouthing off to the 60+ year old gunshop/range owner so i walked down and let him know it was time to shut his mouth.

This kind of stuff is common in the southeast..

Dealing with rude buffons is one reason I (am lucky) don't shoot at public ranges. Setting up my rest and my 35 to chrono and then working on developing a load the last thing I want to worry about is "bubba" and his buddies!!

I will tell you that the one range I go to from time to time to fire form brass it is a pain just to answer questions about what I am doing!

Some good points.
1 shoot far left.
2 shoot as far away to avoid vibration from sustained fire
3 avoid public ranges filled with black gun / rubber knifers
4 wear plugs and muffs to give extra protection from noise and BS

You guys missed the most important one, be friendly. One day at the local range I had a hard time getting off the 10 test rounds I came with due to non stop fire from them;) So at the end of my shooting I was talking with an elderly gentleman / range officer who is a friend of mine. (he too loves black guns) So while a few of the black gun owners were listening I told Jack we should hold a BLACK GUN SHOOT. Boy did that draw some attention. One asked what would you shoot and how is it run ( yeah he took the bait, now I got to set the hook) I tokd him I would shoot a 338 Lapua with 300 grain smk's at 2950 fps. He said well thats not fair thats not a black gun (assault rifle) I told him yeah it gets better, the rules for the shoot are we hang all the black guns from the target backers and I get to shoot each one. I guess i forgot about being friendly that day:D

I read Ol Mikes post, boy, there is NO, and I mean NO messing around at the range that I go to. I BS you not, if someone is seen to be intoxicated the cops will be called! Anyone who shoots rapid fire is immediately removed. At first I thought the rules were a little strickt (rifles cased at all times that they are not on the bench) but honestly, I don't mind anymore. There are just too many idiots out there who simply don't have any common sense about firearms.

hey, Mike, that's a pretty good one shooting the group in the other guys target, I'd be LMAO!

Black guns

Well..I have 3 of those "black guns" - my latest a DPMS in .308. And a few more "nice" target guns. The black guns are fun to shoot. I like to wait for young guys, who obviously don't hand load and their mom always picked up after them, to leave. Some just shoot Wolf crap. But I have a 5 gallon bucket of once fired .223 brass I have not had time to go through yet. I am not to proud to bend over and pick money up off the ground.
When I go shoot my "black" guns I am trying to work up the best load. I always go to were I will not be hitting anyone with my spent brass. I did try a brass catcher...just didn't like it.

I am from the SE. I have shot all around this great country. I have seen d___heads at every range.

Nothing better than reading a bunch of gun owners posts about how they "dislike" other gun owners because of the style of gun they choose to shoot and the manner in wich the firearm is built to function. You should all call Jim Z and join his anti black gun club.If you dont like other firearm owners, the guns they choose to shoot or the manner in wich these guns are fired spend some of the vast amounts of "coin" you have and build your own **** range, dont go to a public range and expect everyone to cater to your likes and dislikes.

Nonya

I know we need to stick together on the gun issue. I do not think anyone is saying anything bad about the BLACK GUNS, Just the idiots behind the triggers. Many people use them every day adn are mindfull of the other. The title should have been People That Have NO Clue!

Maybe its different in MT but in most places the people that tend to shoot AR type rifles are younger, GI Joe wantabees, inconsiderate, and foolish. I am not saying all of them all. When they show up at the range after you and set up and start flingin brass all over the place without consideration of others, its rude. It could be any semi auto, but inlarge it GI Joe.

Like others said, many are there to shoot as much ammo, as fast as possible with no regurad of accuracy..Good for them, just be mindfull of the brass.

Now if they show up with a H&K 308 watch out. I have never seen anything eject brass that hard.
