Family chest rigs preloaded with 260 Rem, and 308 Win, son has a rig with 223 Rem. All will hunt, each is ready to go. Each rig equipped with handguns, 40, 9mm's. Ammo is common throughout ALL of North/America. Each pack is also equipped with kill kits for processing game, safety/med equipment, solar chargers, optics and the rest of the usual suspects. The only other weapon we'll grab is a takedown 22LR (already attached to a pack). Ammo is light, quiet, accurate, and puts easy meals on the table cost effectively.
So many people are hoarding many thousands of rounds of ammo expecting to be prepared for the Apocalypse. Each should consider two very important facts...
1. You can only fight what you can carry.
2. You cannot fight and defend your ammo bunker because it's a fixed location. If you fix yourself, your adversaries, in mass, will surround and destroy you in place, then move on to the next ammo cache buffet. Just 3 cents worth.

In that situation my Rock River 223 with iron sights. Best chance of picking up more ammo along the way. Minimal failure modes. Not optimal for a lot of stuff but best general choice.

300 BLK subsonics, 220gr Makers expanders, 11.2gr A-1680 over Rem 7.5 primers. A few hundred at least, they're light enough to probably carry 300 between us. Since I'd have kids in tow there would be a premium on being quiet and avoiding attracting attention. Will kill any game animal (or the odd cow, since the rules of polite society are out the window here) that I would come across. The 300 Blackout in a bolt action is Hollywood quiet, serving the goal of avoidance over confrontation. It's analogous to a survival 22LR, which can't be loaded for in this situation.

I bugged-out to a remote location 36 years ago! But, I'll play. A Contender with scoped,14" .223 Rem barrel and 1000 loaded rounds, split among us! Sub 1" groups at 100 yards.....can be an effective deterrent out to 400+ yards. Take arms and ammo as needed, from those that are not socially acceptable! As it is .223 Rem, potentially a lot of ammo can be had along the way! memtb

I'd bring my staple gun cuz it is quiet and I like to do my fighting up close.
The AR in 223/5.56 is hard to beat in this situation. Another good choice would be an AK or variant. Since I don't own an AK, I'd be grabbing my AR. Like said before good chance to be able to pickup ammo along the way, probably the same with an AK. I understand the stopping power of the 12 gauge, but it's more difficult to reload for when in a firefight and it may stop anything in its path, but isn't the best at putting rounds down range when needed.

Simple! I'll take a Merkel 96 drilling rifle with a quick detatch scope. Chambered in double 12 gauge over 30R Blaser. 00 buck in the left barrel, 6 shot in the right, and180 grain Accubonds in the bottom barrel! 100 rounds of each. Keeping the family both fed and protected from 10 feet to 300+ yards is all covered with one gun!
Of course I don't own a Merkel drilling rifle, but I don't own the imaginary primers and powder either!

We are too olde for an on-foot trek to some distant location. We would stay & pray.
Some much younger folks like Todd (EMT) & Samantha (PA) - needed for aftermath, would have our AR15, 5.56 with 360 rounds & .308 (7.62) Ruger MKII with 140 rounds .
In addition to our Bible, wifey & I would stay with 1911, 45 auto and .357 waiting for the Alamo type ending. Todd would know how to pry apart 7.62 linked belts to get ammo. Hopefully, some 5.56 ammo might be available. In the event we survived there are lots of deers in our neighborhood to shoot for food with some of our numerous rifles. Buck shot is sort of useless beyond 25 yards but 5.56 rounds are effective out to 300 plus.

Interesting to say the least. This is a long range hunting site. Within it reside what I consider some of the best firearms experts on the planet. Yet, after nearly 24 hrs. not a single person would be willing to take their expensive long range rifle if found homeless and needed to feed and protect their family, simply because they know it wouldn't even make a good tent post when out of ammo. Instead they would take a lightweight carbine in an intermediate range cartridge that they feel they would most likely be able to find ammo for sometime in the future. The rifle would also most likely be a hi cap semi auto. Also, many would also find room for a handgun. Most likely cartridges would be 5.56, .308, 9MM, .40 S&W, .45ACP, and 12ga shotgun. In other words, the most common M&P stuff.The handgun would also most likely be a hi cap semi auto. Out of literally thousands of combinations of firearms and cartridges, these are the ones most would choose in this situation. I find it very enlightening that these are the ones those inside the beltway are trying to ban first. While they sound stupid when they talk, it is really more like dumb like a fox. Thanks for playing, and I hope everyone thinks long and hard about what's going on today.
