I will not be getting 'the vaccine'...

We, wifey & I, will get vaccinated as soon as possible. We are real olde and COVID19 would kill us for sure. Some relatives living in other states that are younger than us have been vaccinated but for some reason the two of us, in Montana, cannot get the vaccine. We do not have much confidence in government to act responsibly & efficiently. Hopefully, this vaccination situation will not play out to be one controlled by political considerations - like dispensation of vaccine based on: maintaining control (1), influential & powerful (2), those groups needed to maintain political capital (3), & everybody else (4)
You can bet your bottom dollar that it will play out to political considerations .... we've already seen that happen in Congress.

Thanks for the good discussion, gentlemen. This can be a heated topic, and I really appreciate the honest stories and experiences that have been shared here. I feel fortunate to say I have only lost an uncle to COVID thus far.

I am not a denier, just a thoughtful individual trying to make sense things. Everyone I know has been affected, directly or indirectly. It's very interesting to hear the different perspectives and truly amazing that intelligent people can look at our situation and draw drastically different conclusions.

Viruses are tiny. This makes them hard to study because we cannot see them - even with an electron microscope - I understand the estimated size of the COVID-19 virus to be ~250nm. That's smaller than the wavelength of ultraviolet light - basically 1/4 of a micron.

Due to this complication Covid-19 has not yet been isolated in a lab. This is problematic when it comes to performing controlled, scientific tests.

My understanding is that we are dealing with an invisible enemy. We can't really see how it's interacting with our bodies, but we see how are bodies are reacting to IT. Reactions vary, but often what gets individuals in trouble is an inflammatory response (often in the respiratory system).

A lot of people compare COVID to the flu. Sources vary, but findings consistently indicate that COVID-19 is more serious than the flu. How much? It's hard to say. To me it looks like COVID has possibly 3x the mortality rate of influenza (it is strange that influenza took the year off). Either way - influenza and covid are both well below 1 death per 100 cases. Less than 1%.

According to the CDC, the fatality rate attributed to those infected with the Spanish Flu was one in ten. 10%! If that were the case presently, I might have a different outlook on these rushed vaccines.

Flu vaccines have been around for a long time. How is the COVID-19 vaccination any different? Well it is the FIRST mRNA VACCINE of its kind! This is my point. Scientists have been working on mRNA vaccines for nearly two decades (perhaps longer). Past trials have been plagued with undesirable side effects, which indicates it is not an easy thing to get right.

At the moment, I'm with @JMW67

In preliminary trials, Ivermectin has been shown effective not only as

-a prophylactic (preventing people from getting sick),

- for treatment COVID symptoms (reducing inflammatory response).

- It has even shown effective treating POST-COVID syndrome (I'm not sure if that's actually a recognized syndrome, but there are people who get messed up by the virus, test positive, then in time the virus leaves, they test negative but these people can't work and long term disability doesn't know what to do with them)

They best part, Ivermectin has been used by BILLIONS of people. It's cheap and proven to be harmless (well, not to parasites, but harmless to humans).

Anyhow, for those on the fence, it's another option to look into.

I hoped to be more active in this thread, hopefully things slow down here for me this week.

All this is of interest.

From Handskills - "According to the CDC, the fatality rate attributed to those infected with the Spanish Flu was one in ten. 10%! If that were the case presently, I might have a different outlook on these rushed vaccines."

We realize this each year when we visit the Belmont MT cemetery - Belmont is sort of a ghost town - wifey's grandparents and mother settled and lived there. So many graves dated 1918, tiny little kids to old tough farmers - the Spanish Flu might have killed 10% of Belmont. On the other side of the country my grandparents were employed by this lady who inherited $40 mil (pre income tax, lots of $$) upon her 18th birthday and this woman, some time later, volunteered as a nurse in France to care for the WWI wounded and those having the Spanish flu. The theory is that the Spanish flu resulted from the filth & misery of WWI.

During the past week I had a lively exchange via email with our health care providers and was finally able to pin them down and found out that they only had enough COVID19 (virus) vaccine on hand for 10-15% of individuals in out age group - 1B the next highest - like 100's of doses for 1,000's of old folks. Presently our providers are working on some "algorithm" what will establish priorities based on existing health conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, cancer and other serious med problems and are using some out-of- state expertise to develop the algorithm - work to develop the algorithm has been underway for almost 1 month.

This pandemic could not have come at a worse time to our shores. Our county is so bitterly divided that no one trusts a word of what comes from the "other side." From the get, this thing has been politicized to the point of circus, starting with the reaction to banning travel from China to Pelosi declaring she wouldn't trust any vaccine touted as safe by the president.

I think it would be very helpful right now for the directors and scientists of the various vaccine programs to step forward and present their "science." Show the public their work, their trials, their studies, and the decision making process that allowed them to be confident enough to release these vaccines. After all, we all paid for that work. I think we're entitled to see it. It would be imperative that no network people or politicians of any stripe be allowed within ten miles of their presentations.

How dare you, as a mere taxpayer and citizen of this once great country, be allowed to know the truth about anything involving the government and the manner in which your elected officials treat you? Have you gone completely daft? You, sir, haven't the ability to sort out the truth of the science of this virus without the politicians and their favorite scientists telling you what it is that you are to believe. Drop and give me twenty-five, and your eyes better go into that muddy water to clear your mind, boy.

I had many nurse friends head to NYC area during the big spike. I have heard without fail the exact same take on it from all of them.
They all said that the virus wasn't the issue, third world like hospitals and 1-20 nurse ratio made it impossible for them to do their job. They lost a guy from pancreatitis simply because he had no leads to monitor his vitals. According to each of them the regular staff there acted like these issues were the norm. ICU nurse ratio is usually 1 nurse to 2 patients. I am not surprised by what happened in NYC just based on this. Three friends were in queens and one wasn't my friend but shared her experience and I don't know where she was. One friend figured they lost 80% of who they lost based on the hospitals lack of staff and things they needed.
They also have come a long ways on knowing when to intubate these patients and when not too. Just my 2 cents and what info I have heard about the bodies in NYC area from those that were there.
Have your many nurse friends paid their fair share of New York's state taxes yet? They do know the state is going to go broke without their tax contributions. Oh, that's right, New York is fixing to get a bailout from most of the rest of the taxpaying people. Maybe New York City will buy everyone guns since they are defunding their police departments.

They will pay when we all pay with a stupid bail out for states who can't be fiscally responsible. They did make killer money doing it.

And some died making that killer money. I am sorry, but I do not feel like bailing out New York State, or any other state that does not manage its money with any better fiscal responsibility. Just keepin' the pot stirring.

I don't think they should be bailed out, I don't think any state or city should get a free pass for not working inside a budget. So yeah I am with you on that. As for nurses dying that went none I knew even got sick so 👍🏻👍🏻 Guess they got lucky.

I hope they all got lucky. Heard about all the first-line workers getting sick and some dying and figured some must have come from NY. I have never had a bad nurse, and I have had a few. I wish them all well.

They did, they have been back for 6 months. They all traveled to NYC as travel nurses. Yep married me a nurse, she has gone on now and is an NP now but yeah I like me a good looking nurse 😆😆.
