180 Grain Bullet 3400 FPS or better

Is there a caliber out there that isn't a fire form wildcat (one step neck down "wildcat" is fine) that can send a 180 Grain bullet at 3400 FPS or better and shoot/group well? This would strictly be a hunting rifle. Action length doesn't matter. Bolt face doesn't matter. Barrel Burner doesn't matter.

I dont believe 7STW, 7- 300 WBY, 28 Nosler will get you there

Looking more towards 7mm because of better BC. Any input would be appreciated. 28" max Barrel length, preferably a 26" Barrel

Thanks

"send" it...where on earth are you sending it, possibly via Fed-X..........:)

On the real, none of the cartridges you mention will touch 3400 with a 26 or 28" barrel with any element of sane pressures

Maybe a 7/378...?

While not a 7mm, my 300RUMs both with 26" tubes and slightly longer throats send 180's above 3,400fps with Retumbo and RL26, and while not my tighest, they group under 1/2" moa with those loads

I have ran 180 eldm's up to 3300 with reloader 33 in a 28 inch bartlien while doing a ladder test with my 28 nosler . I had light ejector marks there, The best accuracy was at 3275. A long barrel 28 nosler would probably get you there, finding a bullet that holds together and shoots good at those speeds may be another challenge.
What zero would you need to shoot relatively flat to say 400 yards.

300 RUM. Factory Remington 26"
180 grain accubonds. 100 grains of RL25. 3500fps.

30-338 lapua UNimproved. 24" hart barrel. 12 twist. 165 grain accubonds. 98 grains of RL 22. 3700fps.

338 RUM. Factory Remington 26".
180 grain accubonds. 101.5 grains of RL22
3650 FPS.

338 RUM 26" Krieger I ran 210 sciroccos up to 3600 FPS with RL22.
Yes these are hot. They were/are safe in my rifles. None of these loads produced heavy bolt lift. However, Remington brand brass, primer pockets loose after 1 shot. ADG brass is good for 3 plus shots. (on 3rd loading now with no issues)
Lapua brass in the 30-338 is good for 6 plus shots.

What length barrels have to get to that?
The question was for Lance...so excuse my chiming in. The 7 AM has tremendous potential that is maximized by the longer tubes. From talking to Kirby though, I would think 28" would get you there. Thinking Lance might have one of these and could speak from experience. Mine is still under construction so I can't. You can always email Kirby Allen himself too if you're kicking tires on this option. He is a straight-shooter with extensive knowledge and experience in this field. One of the best rifle builders out there... Gotta check out his work on the 458 Maximus while you're at it. :)

To OP: I don't think you can get there with a 26" barrel or a standard .532 bolt face. The 7 ultra is the closest you'll come, but still not with a 26" barrel because the slowest powders will be needed to generate that kind of speed and they will require a 30" barrel to fully do their job. Even a 30 caliber 180 at 3400 without going to extra large bolt face and extra long tube would be a monumental feat. You may want to try the 6.5x300 Wby or 26 Nosler with some of the sleeker 140+ grain bullets for a BC on par with what you're looking for in the 7mm 180. But from personal experience I can tell you that you will STILL need a 28" barrel minimum, as the Wby loves its Reloader 50! I couldn't generate speeds advertised when it came out with a 26. Consider a carbon fiber wrapped barrel and go long. Call Carbon Six, and they can spin you one up and even chamber it if you'd like for a sight less than Proof. The only other way I can tell you to get a 180 grain bullet moving that fast with a standard .532 bolt face and 26" barrel is to load a 180gr Accubond or Barnes TTSX in a .340 Wby or .33 Nosler, but your BC will suck! Same energy... just low BC, which defeats the purpose.

For short range pure horsepower Barre burning hunting loads, look for the 3500-3700 fps node. Zero at 300 makes for 6-8" low at 400. And never over 2-3/4" high inside of 300. And still has a surplus of energy 6-700 yards for North American medium game.

Exception to my above info.
338 180 accubonds bleed energy Like a double lung broadhead shot deer. But they are devastating up close.
