Carbon Wrapped Hunting Rifle

I bought a Christensen. Still trying to find a load that will shoot. Throat is too long for my standby 140 gr Berger VLD secant ogive bullet. If I can't dial it in, my next step will be to put a Proof Research barrel on it. I like the Trigger Tech trigger. Overall nice rifle, but accuracy has been a disappointment. I do have some sub-minute loads, barely. Can't get to sub-half minute accuracy:(

I'm looking to put together a high quality hunting rifle. I want it to be a carbon wrapped barrel in either 6.5x284 Norma or 6.5 RPM . I have narrowed it down to either a Christensen Arms Ridgeline (at cost) or a Remington 700 built on a trued and blueprinted action with a Proof barrel and Bell and Carlson stock. Which of these would you recommend and why? Thanks in advance.
I'd stay very well clear of the Christensen, I have a new Ridgeline in 300 PRC, my nephew bought a new Mesa in 300 Win Mag. Both going back to Christensen for warranty work. Best group at 100 yards 4 inches. Hope they get it figured out.

If your wanting a high quality rifle, what is your budget, what caliber, what kind of stock?. I am assuming you want something light weight since its a hunting rifle. There is a very wide range of options and you will get a very wide range of opinions. If your budget allows and you want light weight I would certainly start with a custom action like a Lone Peak TI, Defiance Anti TI, Carbon Manners or McMillian stock, Carbon wrapped barrel in a Proof, Bartlein or Benchmark all are high quality barrels, TT trigger. If your budget does not allow then Fierce and a few other makes good production rifles. I will agree with the guys above, steer clear of Christensen. I had a bad experience as well.
Good luck going down this rabbit hole!

If time and budget allow, going custom is something you will not regret. I jut did my first and wish I would have spent this $$$ much earlier. I will caution you to definitely look at the cartridge you want. I did a 300 WM and now am bored with it. I went carbon barrel and stock. If details are wanted, PM me.

If weight is a consideration, I think with the weight you are shaving on the barrel you are adding back with the standard stock, especially the Bell and Carlson, which are a little heavier. If going that route, maybe look at a number 4 contour and save some cash. Otherwise, go full on silly and as light as possible. I would also caution you that extreme lightweight and long range are challenging. You have to find your comfort/balance.

Mine is about 9.5#.

Thanks for the advice. I'm looking at lightweight, not featherweight. That's a dangerous rabbit to chase. I am shooting for the 8.5#-9.5# window with optics. Not too heavy to pack, but not so light that it is hard to shoot. There is definitely a balance for me. From what I have read, I think I am going to start gathering parts for a custom build. That seems like the best use of my resources to get the end result I am looking for.

That would be a problem. I'm all in on a long action.
Talk with your gunsmith about chambering it for a 130 gr bullet.. I use a Short action on my 6.5-284, ejection is bot an issue. If your smith can chamber the barrel so that the loaded round is at mag maximum with your favored bullet, go for it.

This is what I built last year. LP action, McMillan A3 adj Carbon, Proof, TT scope. TS customs put it together for me. Travis can source everything for you. This one came in at 9#.

I probably won't make a decision on chambering until after my dad gets his custom 6.5 RPM back and sees what kind of accuracy he gets from it. I'd like to run Accubond LR or ELD-X in it either way.
