Hornady ELDX Performance

I shot 5 whitetail with 143 grain eldx out of my 6.5 creedmore Saturday . None of then lived to talk about it. Didn't have to track any either. I would say they work just fine.
I've shot at least 8 moose with no issues. Great bullet

Back to the original post. I had similar experience with the ELD-X. I shoot a Pronghorn at 225 yards with a 6.5 Swede. Up hill shot right behind the shoulder. Bullet came apart, heart and a lung were liquidated. Only exit was what looked like a part of the jacket may have exited on his back side, both tender loins were contaminated along with part of a back strap.
The other animal was with 162 gr 7 Rem Mag, 290 yard broadside shot on an Aoudad. He tumbled over after about 10 yards. Shot right behind the shoulder and had grass coming out the entrance with no exit. Ever found more than bullet fragments.

I have had similar experience. After initial fragmentation, the projectile had good mushrooming and excellent penetration.
I had a Toyota pickup that mushroomed great. A couple years later I got another Muley with my Chevy and it did not mushroom at all. I think that heavier load made up for it.

I have read through this whole thing now (15 minutes I will never get back) and here is what I think I have learned.
1. Bullets designed to expand at 1000 yards may rupture, over-expand, under-penetrate, or otherwise find some way to perform in a less than Ideal fashion when used on game at less than 600 yards.
2. Well built bullets that are designed to kill game to say 600 yards are in-accurate and are seldom considered seriously for hunting use anymore.
3. Trucks of all makes are excellent deer killers.
4. Federal Fusion bonded bullets work so well they get zero mention because, well, what is there to debate I guess.
5. Sierra Match kings are the ONLY match bullets that should not be used to take game even past 100 yards.
It has really been an informative read and I am better for having taken the time. Thank you all for adding to the discussion!

Wow to think my hunting story started all this! I have never been involved with a social media site before.
My story did end with some drama.
Dangerous? Wandering?
But what good is a hunting story without it?
I assure you all that I have killed more than 70 western big game animals with a lot of different bullets and calibers. My post was merely to let you all know what my experience was with this particular offering from Hornady. Yes the deer was dead.
Yes I've killed deer with my truck.
I do investigate bullet performance as an ethical Hunter
I shot long range before rangefinders and turrets.
Elk 735 yards
300 win mag, 200 partition, 3000fps
I only have custom rifles and only shoot Hand loads
Sorry to get you all stirred up
About bullets and there performance.

Happy Holidays to those of you who are not rude and self indulged

you have to realize that around here there are cartridge bandwagons, bullet bandwagons, brass bandwagons and anything else they can put wheels on and if you aren't on board then the sky is falling.
just sit back and try not to choke on your coffee when reading some of this stuff.
I appreciate the info so thank you and if you have any more don't be afraid to post. the more the better.

Any body have experience with the .338 230 grain ELD-X? especially interested in 338 win mag or 338-06speeds or around 2750? I have a 338wsm, and although 225 accubonds shoot real well in my gun they are spendy and or non existant in the stores near me.

Oh ill be using them for deer out to maybe 300 yards. Most of my shots on game are in the 50-200 yard range. And steel out to 670. Id like to have 1 load for both. These looked like a decent option.

Ok I don't have to realize anything
This is weird
You all are a strange bunch.
With nothing to do about the subject.
I'm sorry I offended you all
And I don't have to understand anything

Assuming it was a taco and not a tundra, you should've gotten a high clearance steel bumper and turned that Toyota into a fmj.
