Which model Tikka?

This here is what you want

perfect size, weight, balance, fast handling with open sights if necessary. Or, if you can find one, one of the Cabela's special edition Boar hunter models. they came with a camo stock, 21" fluted heavy barrel and very good express sights. if you're hunting big woods, these are what you want.
Hmm maybe I confused about big woods. All I meant by big woods is they are relatively open woods in the north east. We have shots up to 200 yards pretty easy I much of the woods during hunting season.

Just get a Tikka t3x in the lite version, in my family we have several 243,6.5,308,30-06.these rifles never cease to amaze me even with the factory stocks they are all 3/4 moa or better. They are light to carry, shoulder well and are very accurate with factory ammo. The best upgrade is probably a limbsaver airtech recoil pad in the larger calibers as mentioned above (by jmcarrol), The trigger is user adjustable and on a hunting rifle im not sure you would go much lighter than the factory setting.good luck with the rifle and let us know how it works out.

tikka has a gray laminate SS version
if he is looking for a "tikka" with a top tier stock from the factory then I suggest sako 85 carbon lite if he wants 308, 260, or 708
finnlight if he wants more caliber options,
carbon wolf if he wants threaded

OK, i feel ya. I had 2 of the boar hunter models and they were just as accurate at range as the normal models. I have 4 tikka's right now and they all do very well. If you aren't afraid of a build, just go to pawn shops, cabelas or somewhere with used guns and get the cheapest T3 you can find. Even the used ones still shoot well, then get a McMillan or manners for 5-600 bucks and you'll have a great rifle. Bought my last used T3 in 300WSM for 350 out the door used. Still shoots as good as any of the others I've got.

T3x compact for big woods deer rifle. Comes with an adjustable spacer for the stock, has all the great tikka features with a shortened barrel. Easy to maneuver and you don't need all the velocity and speed to 400 yds like you would in a open western situation. Best of luck

I have a Tikka 3X Lite stainless in .270 and it is now my go to elk Mtn rifle. Easy to carry with a safari sling and mangeable recoil. My other Mtn/timber rifle is a Browning X-Bolt Stainless Stalker in 7mm-08 with a 22" barrel, and it is also an elk slayer. Both rifles are a pleasure to shoot especially after toting around my 7mm mag cannon Remington.

I don't own a Tikka but I've recommended them to several people who love them. Nice rifle with a smooth action and they shoot great out of the box. Some people don't like the plastic stock, but they are light, fit me great (might be long for a woman or short man) and are practically indestructible. A limbsaver recoil pad wouldn't be a bad idea, other than that I would say for his application the stainless/synthetic would do everything he wants out of the box and is a pleasure to pack all day at a working mans price.

I have 5 Tikka T3 Lites, which I would recommend if anyone is stocking them new. All they need is a Limbsaver 10011 to perfect the design. I believe they made the T3X pad better but I'm not sure. The T3X Lite and Superlites are going for about the same price at budsgunshop.com and I'd recommend either of these in stainless before going up to the Hunter, which is still not a bad price. Any stainless Tikka, even blued, is a winner.

I have a T3 Forest in 30-06 and love it. Very comfortable rifle to carry and shoot and looks great to boot. I have had a T3x CTR and currently have a TAC A1 and both are excellent. TAC would be a bit of a beast to carry in the bush in terms of weight, but the fact that it's a folder offsets that. Love the out of the box accuracy and all around fit and function of the whole tikka line.
