Muzzle break

Brakes with side ports put more concussion on your head than other brakes, and this is an understatement! You need to wear ear protection with most muzzle breaks, Gentry is the easiest on your ears.

I have been shooting the 7 STW since '89. Harrells precision brake is a good one, radial or tactical. If you do not shoot off the ground, don't get a side discharge brake...they are Horrible when it comes to noise! Unfreeking believable noisy in fact!

@FEENIX
Very nice, Sir! I like the finish on that one. Mine went on a Ruger American Predator chambered in.358 Winchester that was NOT pleasant shoot. The 4 port beast tamed it down to .22-250 standards. Pretty fun to shoot now! :D

Aye Sir! Will be ordering more to replace some of my older less effective MBs.

Here's pix screwed on to the barrel.

My .300 Wby Mag UltraLite shoots like a.270 Win. with a Dave Holland side and top port brake. The tamed recoil and muzzle jump makes it a joy to shoot. I believe that brake tames recoil by about 55 to 57%.

I have a vaise on my sako Stw, they call it the friendly brake reins it in to about 243ish my 13 year old daughter shoots it.

I have a browning a bolt 7mm stw that I got in a trade. Recoil isn't as bad as expected but muzzle jump is pretty good. Thinking about a break just don't know what to get. Any help would be appreciated.
I have 2 Christensen rifles with their brakes on them. Most effective brake I've used. My 8lb 338 lapua kicks like a 308 and the 26 nosler literally doesn't move.

Levi Reed makes a killer muzzlebreak. I have it on my 40 cal muzzleloader and 265gr bullets at 3000 fps are not bad at all.

Are hunting with the gun or just shooting for fun? Before I would look at breaks. I would think about hearing protection. A bruised shoulder goes away. Hearing loss doesn't.

I have 4 apa breaks on prs and tactical style guns. They are very effective. I am using the self timing ones. I shifted a guys hat around at the range with 300 win. He was forewarned.

I don't use breaks on my hunting guns.

Check out "The Precision Rifle Blog" to see mechanical engineer and long range competitor Cal's report on muzzle brakes and accuracy.

*It has been recently discovered that several muzzle brakes degrade accuracy.

Re. Lance Kenyon's comment, I have an APA Little Bastard brake on my 6.5 CM Ruger Precision Rifle and it works very well with no negative effect on accuracy.

*FOR HUNTING: Browning provides a radial brake with their X-Bolt rifles and has also in the past on their A-Bolt rifles. If they would have affected accuracy Browning would know. Other companies also provide radial (360 deg.) brakes for their hunting rifles.
So yeah, radial brakes are definitely NOT for prone shooting but they do not hurt accuracy.
