Wanting New Rifle in 25 or 6.5

Looking at making room in the gun safe by getting rid of a 6.5 CM Kimber and a 25/06 Savage. The 25/06 was my first rifle and has a 26" heavy barrel and hasn't left the house since I started getting normal hunting weight rifles. I don't really have any issues with the Kimber, just not that excited about it anymore.

I am looking for advice on a middle to upper quality factory rifle in 25/06, 6.5/284 or 6.5PRC for lighter big game or all-around hunting rig. I like some of the Browning X-bolts, the Montana Rifle X3 and a couple of the Winchester's.

Anybody have anything to add from experience with these rifles or cartridges that I should know before I go through with this?
A 6.5 of some flavor is what I'd run. Out of those you have listed id run the 6.5 prc. There is just much more available for 6.5 than the 25s. There is the 131 black Jack, but you need a 1:7 twist to stabilize it. The 6.5 is still going to be the better route for hunting anyway. Bigger bullets do more damage that's just physics. You didnt mention what kind of game your hunting. If it's only whitetail then flip a coin they wont know the difference.

I really like the Seekins Pro Hunter. Weighs around 7 pounds, timney trigger, match grade stainless barrel. Comes in the caliber you are interested in (6.5 PRC). They recently opened their custom shop for other options and calibers (though prices start at $3400 ish).

All Good advice. I have a qualifier tho. If you expect velocities above 3000 with a PRC you may be disappointed. I have been working with one and at 59gr of h1000 I am only getting 2911. Hornady says 3100. I don't think my rifle will ever get to 3100 w/o over pressure. This is all with 140's. May start a new thread on this cause the lack of velocity by 200 really bothers me.

I don't like the stock either. If I ever re-barrel a 25/06 it's gonna be a 25/06AI.

I'd just like to add that the Ackley Improved cartridges are great, a bit of work, and....depending on which cartridge you choose it can be expensive to get set up with dies. I've got.270 Ackley Improved, I'd seriously consider the .270WSM, if I were to do it again. The Ackley Improved have some limitations. Also I do like the 6.5-06 cartridge

Weatherby Vanguard Backcountry 25-06, light, fluted barrel, and mine loves nearly all loads it's been fed, least finicky rifle I have ever owned. It literally shoots sub MOA with everything I have fed it, off the shelf or handloads. Best with Barnes 100 Gr Vor-Tx factory loads, consistent 1/3 MOA. I wish all my rifles were as eager to shoot as this one

Don't discount a modern 6.5x55mm action. With Hornady 143gr ELD-X at 2,700-2,800fps, you'll knock most things over into their own shadow

I find it amusing how 6.5mm is being touted for bullet selection when not all that long ago no one wanted a 6.5 because of the dismal bullet options. Prior to all of the current fad 6.5 chambers coming along there were still great 6.5 offerings that suffered from a lack of good bullets. The .25's day will come. Really wouldn't surprise me if it is next on the fad list. What will make things more interesting is when high BC .277 bullets start coming along too.

I have a X bolt in 25-06. It's pretty boring in that I'm left handed so I didn't have all the cool X bolt options. The Browning is nice because it has a 24" barrel and the X bolt detachable magazines allow you to seat bullets out to the rifling. My wife and and I both have X bolts. They are both half moa guns with the right load right out of the box.

I would add Fierce, Christensen, to your list of guns and
.270 wsm to calibers...just me
