I have the white gold 1-9 twist sorriest shooting rifle i ever owed. Final got it shooting decent 64gr hammer and 60btip. Tryd up to 77s in just about every make! Wouldn't buy another one. Also the mag will only let u run 2.400 long. The lands r 2.550-2.600 with 75 elds. And vlds. Il probably rebarrel it later on. Got a all American 10 twist that shoots circles around it

This is timely as my 22-250 on a Rem 700 is going to be coming up for a rebarrel soon. I may go with the faster twist to experiment with the longer bullets. Up to now it has been the 52gr Berger HP which does very well but is certainly not a long range load.
While I like Tikkas and mine in 6.5CM is phenomenal, the T3X Lite in 22-250 doesn't really meet my needs with that stock and barrel profile. I'm use is for long range prairie dogs and the number of shots in a string would heat that barrel up too quickly and I would want a foreend width that would ride the bags better.

Thanks for those links. I also did see that the 8 twist is not on the Tikka site. Just make sure at the end of the Model Number it says "R8" or it wont be the 8 twist. It will be the old 14 twist. That's what I figured out I think.
Anyone know if these are throated for the longer bullets? Magazine length give any problems? Seems like the mag length can be a problem in many calibers or different brands of rifles with the longer COL's.

I agree. I'm currently gathering parts for a 22:250AI on a 1:9.5 @ 26" to shoot 95 - 100 grainers.
Figure 3200 - 3400 fps comes out @ 240,000 to 257,000 RPM. The 224 Valkyrie (a name that may not be spoken) seems to derive much of its issues from RPM.
I think 9:1 might be to fast for anything under 100 grainers. 9.5-10 seems to be the number for me for 95-100. 80-90s are probably better at 10:1-10.5:1.
I always try to get my rpms to 230-250k to determine twist for LR. Caliber/rpm is also a factor for me. Bigger. Slower.
My question is what rifling? I'm afraid of the 3 groove for jacket stress.
Anyone ever tried taper lapping? The 22 cal rim fire guys do it. Barrels are cheap so I'm thinking of trying it.

I recon you would have to shoot heavier projectiles out of those faster twist rifles, if you went back to 40gr's I recon they would just disintegrate when exiting the barrel at such a high velocity??

Hey kycarl, I have a curtis axiom action on one of my match rifles, and I'm wanting another one. I don't necessarily need the barrel, but might take the package if that's the only option. Let me know what you are wanting for it.

Way too slow twist. Pick a 95-100 grain .224 and look at the length of that bullet. If you put the numbers into any app for twist stability you'll see that for 95 to 100 grainers you'll be in the 7 or 6.5 twist territory. 8 would be marginal to unstable depending on its length for 95s. 8 wont stabilize any 100 grain on the market. Sierra even labels the box on their 100gr for 6.5 or faster twist only. I'm working with an 8 twist now...it wont do 100s at all, as in key holes at 100yds. I'm up to 88s but I'm skeptical that it would stabilize a 95.
I agree with Aushunter1. You can do a .243 with a 26" bbl. I get 4000 plus fps with 58 gr V-max and about 3/8" groups. With factory Hornady ammo. First target is 2 shots to the left. The second target is of 4 more shots bringing my sight in to 1.25" high at 100. I've shot prairie dogs out to 850 yards with 58's.
It's a gun you can use for targets, Varmints and deer. Load it with 100 gr. deer bullets or 95 VLDs.
Out to 500 yards its a laser with 58s or 55s. Use Superformance powder and get another 100 fps. If you must, you can rechamber in 243 AI, but you won't need to.
