75gr. VMax out of a 22-250

Read in a thread that guys will rebarrel their 22-250s to as 1:7 twist to stabilize the 75gr. bullets. That sounds like a good thing because where I live we see a lot of coyotes at that 4 to 600 yard range and we always have a good wind. What is you guys advice on this, pros and cons.

If you rebarrel make it an Ackley improved 22-250 and use a slightly longer barrel.That way you can push them heavy ones fast by using a slower powder.
Mine has a 1-8 twist and will stabilize up to an 80 grainer.
Pressure will always be an issue with the heavy bullets,,,unless you can live with slower velocity,,but then why bother.

How do the heavy bullets work on coyote fur?

Most all the coyotes I've shot with mine didn't like it much...lol.As for fur,the berger 80 grain vld bullets just kind of ice pick most of em.i have not shot any of the v-max 75's yet.

1-7 is a little tight for the 75's, most I know use 1-8. Althougth, the 1-7 should rock the 90's pretty well

In my neck of the woods, a fast twist 22-243 launching 75's or 80's is THE coyote medicine. They're rockin in the 3500-ish area, fast & flat with little to zero recoil.

Unfortunately, my 22-243 is a 1-12", no heavies for me but, 40grn blitzkings at 4600fps are kinda fun .

I am shooting a 22-250 ai with a 28" barrel pushing the 75 a max at 3350 and thats not fast for that set up, but accurate. i have been hitting dogs out to 600 so far and the further the better with fur, but from about 200 out they are fine dime sized holes depending where i hit them

Sounds like the 75 grain bullets work pretty good on dogs.

I have not shot Coyotes, but I do know that a 8 twist is enough for the 75 GR. Amax.

Why not jump up to a 243? Just curious.
Not going to lie, when my 22-250 barrel gives up the ghost I'm going to get a 1-12 or a 1-10 for shooting the longer Barnes on deer. But those bullets are only 55's.

I had a 243 ai with 70 grain ballistic tips and the 22-250 ai had near or better ballistics, so i tore the 243 ai apart and stuck with the 22-250 ai

Same thing my dad said - run the ballistics on a .224 80 gr. amax going 3400+ (22-243) and a 243 varmint bullet at its speeds - this is also for long range - if you are talking 400 yards and under just stick with a 243.

I have looked at the 22-243 and have thought of re chambering my 22-250 ai to it, but for now why mess with what is working. look at the 75 a max at 3600 fps talk about a bad a## round
