Scratching my head please help. 28 nosler

View attachment 124012 View attachment 124013 Hey guys, I know there are some very knowledgeable reloader son here and I'm scratching my head today.

Rifle, 28 Nosler Christensen Ridgeline 1:9 26" barrel

All shots at 200 yards. Light and variable wind.

I went to range this morning with several loads to test. Shot some and had an incredible group with 175 eldx 77 grains of H1000 had a 4 shot group .75 moa that is including the one I might have pulled with a sd of 11.6

That is really good for this rifle so I run home and load some more to see if I can repeat. Head back to range and get 4 shot group of 1.85 moa WTH??? but still have a good sd of 12.4.

This was all using brass sized at the same time, same way, from the same lot of Nosler brass on its second reload.

I'm really scratching my head. I really thought I had this and now I'm just confused and aggravated. Any ideas??

Fortunately I also had some hammer hunters that I also tested and they seems to be shooting wonderful, so I know it's not me, optics, etc. Hoping someone on here will have some suggestions on why this load did so well 1 time then went to crap a couple hours later.

I had problems in my custom 7x57 with the 162 grain ELDX. It's the projectile. The combination of muzzle velocity, barrel length and flight time to the target it what causes it. The plastic tips are melting..... Hornady denied it to me. 100 yards they shoot like a dream.... Scratch your head at 200... 300 is *** shooting and 400 cant hit 8" silhoutte... I called Hornady they claimed every thing from my loading to how my rifle was chambered. Funny thing is I dont have that problem with 160 grain sierra match kings. The rounds where pushing 2840 FPS. I would imagine your Nosler is faster... So the as your projectile flies the tip deforms more... Further the target the worse the groups. I loaded up qty 100 and was so disappointed. Hornady didn't offer me any compensation. My rifle also has a 26" barrel longer barrels transfer more heat to projectiles.

Thanks, yea I'm pushing the eldx's around 3100 fps. I have some 175 elite hunters coming. If I don't get them to real close to .5 moa quick I will just go with the 143 Hammer hunters. They shoot amazing. I wish my rifle would stabilize the 177 Hammer's and we would never have even had this conversation.

I bet if you turned all your necks to a .316 loaded round and annealed them you will see a big difference

Most are 16 to 17, only a few were 18 and that might have been me not measuring carfuly.
If you have .016-.018 neck wall thickness I would neck turn them to all the same thickness which would give a concentric neck and also give you the clearance you need. I use the K&M tool, mandrel and expander die which works well.

Not trying to sound like an *** at all, if it we're me I would ditch that nosler crap brass.
I had better luck with Hornady than nosler and the Hornady isn't that good.
Nosler is over priced soft junk. I know hundreds of guys have had good luck with it and hundreds of guys have had crap luck with it. I had nothing but crap in multiple calibers with nosler brass. There service sucks when it comes to ammo and reloading ((save that for a later date)) Peterson is going to be making it soon as is ADG, Bertram has it out I'm pretty sure they just got it in.
I just picked up 200, not the most consistent but not that bad no more pressure signs no more loose primer pockets no more neck issues. I watched a YouTube video of a guy doing a metallurgy video on annealing and he also did a hardness test on it he said it wasn't worth a crap fedral wasn't too far behind.
Take it for what it is worth ( rant over)

Nosler brass is crap... I use PPI

Hurry up and wait I suppose................

A lot of bad experiences posted here with the ELDX. I'm surprised since so many 6.5 CMs seem to shoot them well. I almost bought some during the Berger drought, also because they are a bit more affordable, but then the Bergers started flowing again. The 130 vldh, and 135 classic h in 6.5 CM and the 168 in both styles in 7RM shoot < .5 moa consistently in Xbots and savage. So no reason to change. Oh, and the fouling? Nada. I clean after 50+ rounds just to be nice to the barrels. Have not taken game with them yet though.

I've got a ridgeline 28 on order, can't wait for it to get here. I also have an x bolt 28 Nosler, 1-9 twist and had great luck with 175 ELD-X with 82 grains retumbo with 3.55 coal. CCI 250 primers. I'm at 6000 feet elevation and was starting to flatten primers but no heavy bolt lifts. I shoot suppressed and can touch 4 shots at 100 yards

Good luck with it. If its like mine and finiky as heck just call Steve and order some of his magic bullets. Mine really likes both the 143 and 155 hammer hunters. I ordered some AGD brass and expect it to show up any day. Can't wait to see how it does.
