G'day from the land of oz!

Cautionary tale here gents, So a couple of years ago I purchased a sightron s2 4-16x42 scope. It was mounted on a 17HMR rifle carefully. The scope was always a tad sticky on the mag ring but nothing that made me too suspect.

Well over the next couple of years the binding increased gradually to the point where it wouldn't allow me to go to the minimum mag at all. I was convinced by a mate to send it back because this shouldn't be happening. Also the rifle was never dropped or dinged in any way that made me suspicious of damage.

So off it goes back to sightron through my supplier, Just for me to receive that the scope is bent 1/4 inch out of spec and it cannot be repaired and as the scope is no longer made cannot be replaced.

The offer I received was for a STAC scope at a slightly discounted rate (wholesale price most likely) but this scope is 30mm and my rifle has 1 inch rings.

Further emails have basically seen them dust their hands of me.

My suggestion for folks thinking of a sightron is I suggest you find another company with a more flexible and understand warranty.

Seeya!

I'm sorry McCraggen,But how do you expect Sightron to repair or replace an optic that they no longer make?
The STAC series is a big upgrade over the SII series scopes.Granted,I would expect Sightron to make you a better deal than slightly discounted price.

I have 4 SIII series scopes, and the same SII scope as you have. Several years ago,the elevation turret stem on my SII came loose. I sent it in for repair, and they repaired it very fast and even sent me a bunch of free stuff.

You'd be better off getting the STAC scope, and changing your rings.

Have to side with the OP on this one. Seems like a pretty poor response from Sightron. Seems that a lot of these smaller type scope makers are REALLY hard to deal with when you have any kind of an issue. Leupold hasn't made some scopes for decades but they still manage to fix them or they replace it with the closest new version being made, at no charge. Sightron warranty is supposed to be a lifetime one, but it seems that only works till they switch models. I am unlikely to ever buy one after hearing this.

The same way Leupold did for me last month. Sent in a scope for repair. They sent me an email explaining that since they no longer made that scope they would replace it with another model and gave me a list to choose from. So now I have a new Leupold.

Costa sun glasses are the same. Lifetime until style not produced anymore. They do give you an discount option on new ones, but you are ****ed off and can't believe the don't have one extra arm.

This is good to know I was about to buy my first pair

Even if you're on their guide program. Really, you just discontinued it and you have no spares, ugh
But in my mind they are the very best glasses for running the Deschuttes in Oregon and the skinny water in Alaska.
Just ordered a new pair.

Over the years I have accumulated a safe full of Leupolds, all work as they should. Recently I bought a Ruger 77 round top tang safety (1973 vintage) on Gunbroker. I was looking for a donor rifle, and for me this met my needs. I bought the rifle, unseen, for $400, it had a Leupold 3.5 X 10 VariXIII in Talley rings on the rifle. With the VariX III on the rifle I felt that for $400 I couldn't get hurt. I received the rifle, it was a bit beat up but more than salvageable and pretty much what I expected. The scope was the same vintage as the rifle, 1973 vintage, and it did show signs of its age; not too bad for 46 years old. At the range the scope held zero, however I noticed that the crosshairs were not as sharp as they ought to be and I had trouble focusing them. I sent the scope back to Leupold with one of their return sheets telling them what was wrong with the scope. The return sheet had a question/statement where they had the option to repair or replace the scope with one of equal value. I checked that a replacement would work for me. Leupold had the scope for three months when I received an e-mail that the scope was back on its way from the repair shop. I now have a brand new VariX III, 3.5 X 10 scope. For me that is a warranty that deserves my loyalty and my business.

This may show as a double reply, I had trouble replying to "Dean2's" response to the OP. I do not have any experience with Sightron scopes, however......... Should your Sightron product ever fail due to workmanship or materials simply return it to the Sightron Distributor from the Country it was purchased along with a copy of the sales receipt and we will repair or replace it our option.

The above is a copy and paste.

OP Was the STAC scope free for you? Or did you have to pay for it?
