@ woodwurx,.. You would like, the 7mm-08 as it's, a "Sweet heart" ! If I were building one, I'd call Hornady to see what Twist, they recommend for, the 162 grain ELD-X's as my son's Rifle, wouldn't shoot them, "repeatably well" (had some "Flyers"). The 162 grain, has a very nice BC for even longer ranges and for sheer Penetration the Nosler 160's would be nice, too. The 7mm-08, IS a better Cartridge for Elk/ Moose,..

I doubt that guys feelings will tip the sales numbers toward the 708 enough to measure.

The one rifle I regret selling was a 7mm-08 D Grade with a 20 inch barrel I had made around 1985 by the Remington Custom Shop. The name of the person that built it was John Remington. He said he was not related to Eliphalet. That rifle and it's littermate, a short action 257 Roberts with a 20 inch barrel, are in John Lacy's book.

I have a Model 7MS .257 Roberts from the Custom Shop. Bought it the first year it was available. It has a 20" barrel. My buddy was the Remington rep at the time and I got it at his sample cost.

Agree with Mudrunner on this! Put a 1-8 or 1-8.5 Brux,..SS, 24"-26" #3 or #4 Barrel, on em = Winner, winner, Chicken Dinner !!

The 162 is 9.5.

162's didn't "work" in my son's 1-9.? Tikka barrel, the loads he tried never were, consistent groups "good" one day, next day,.. Krap ! At 300, 400 yards, the groups really showed, the "Flyers" (always had, ONE !) for him and he was almost "heart broken" as he put, the long Bolt stop, long 30-06 Magazines, etc and shot them repeatedly, with NO luck ! He shot almost, the whole Hundred bullets, TRYING !
I suggested that he try the 150's, then groups, tightened up to 1/2 MOA ( 2 3/4" at 640 yards, he did it 2X ) and 1" at 200 yd's, his Zero. His first choice would have been the 162 grain if it was,.. possible! He tried, different Powder chgs and seat depths, too !

IMO, Matching the Bullet to the Twist and finding the "right Burn rate" Powder is "everything"! My .270 WSM, group's tightened up, just switching to Fed 215 Mag Primers,.. who'd of known?? LOL ! F215's "shaved" about, a 1/4 inch off my group size !

Some barrels are pickier than others, and just don't like certain bullets or powders. No matter what you do or try, it will never shoot good with that bullet or powder. I have a couple picky barrels, but you learn to overcome and find something it shoots well and stick with it till you rebarrel with a high quality aftermarket barrel, like a Bartlein, Rock, Shilen, or Proof.

Agreed, But the 7 Rem Mag drives the 162 grainer, at 200+ MORE, feet per second than, the 7mm-08 can ! It was, "marginally stable" for my son, thus the random Flyers.
His barrel is 22.4" long,.. your's 26" and more Powder, to boot !
