What is some long range scopes out there that you guys have that won't break the bank?

What is "not break the bank" mean to you? It would be more helpful to provide a budget.

I just spent a little time this morning behind my new VX-5hd and honestly it was not that bad. The elevation turret is substantially better than the CDS dial that comes on the vx 3's but I did not really care for the wind plex reticle as I prefer to have thinner cross hairs, the windage dial could be improved for sure but over all not al that bad. I would not call it my ideal long range scope but it is functional.

For a hunting rig I really like the Burris veracity. Reliable tracking, good glass, zero stop, and ffp for $600-700 depending on magnification. Another nice option is Sightron siii, excellent glass and tracking, only drawback is no built in zero stop.

Once you go over $1000 you haveany options.

I've been looking at the VX 5HD, you like the zero lock function? How much adjustment do you get in elevation total? It looks like it's only two turns?

The rifle that I have the scope on is a dedicated hunting rifle so it works well for that application. I like the zero lock feature, I get close to 40 MOA with the two turns so I could dial as far as 1500yds which is far enough for any game that I plan on taking. It has a 44mm objective which helps keep the scope low on the gun but affects light gathering ability. If the application is something other than hunting or if weight is not a concern then there are others out there that would probably suit you better, but it fits my needs for this rifle well.

It's going to be a hunting/practice target shooting (hunting situations like branch rests or off hand) gun. I was looking at the Athlon Midas in 2.5-15 or 4.5-27, as they are the same weight. But I would rather have a leupold if I could find one in my budget. First kid definitely breaking the bank when it comes to gun stuff!

I have an Athlon Argos in 6-24 that I got to just be able to shoot a new gun because It was going to take too long to save up for a nicer scope, I was surprised for a $370 scope. Tracked well enough to shoot out to 1000 so I left it on the gun.
