took a friend out yesterday to shoot long range. the wind was perfect when we arrived but as soon as we got setup that all changed! 😣 he'd shot my pistols and a few rifles before but nothing over 100 yards. so getting dialed in and then setting him up for success behind my Browning X-Bolt Hells Canyon Long Range (26" barrel) in 6.5 Creedmoor was fun. the wind went from 1-2 mph to begin with to 10-15mph and kept changing direction.

was able to collect some great data on this trip as i'd never used the 127 LRX this far before… - this rifle/load was sending these with ave 2958fps… faster than normal for some reason. it was 37° and we were at 3865' elevation.

got my friend on the 10" steel plate. pic is him holding it.
also got a nice 4 shot group with one of them impacting the water filled milkjug hanging in front on a custom bracket.

2 impacts that first went through the milk jugs then 1) went through cardboard and 2) impacted the steel - left evidence that the LRX properly expanded even at about 1415fps. cardboard has a nice star cut through it and a star on the larger steel as well. one jug that was hanging against some steel even collected one of the flattened steel copper impacts. yup, it was still 124.8grs
wish i could have found the two that expanded into the star, but the snow and sagebrush make it hard to find such things.

despite the wind, we had a great time. my boys even enjoyed some 22 shooting. 😆 they would have shot long but opted out with the wind mostly in our face… (made it cold!!)

Too to hear the LRX performed well for you.

So, is your buddy hooked yet?

he loves shooting. i guess i got him started in it a few years back. before a local indoor range was sold he would patronize it and take advantage of the rental shop. now he is in the lookout for a pistol. he understands the shortages right now and is in no hurry to get caught in it. that and he has a passion for snow machines and with that season in full tilt he isnt wanting to cut into his fuel fund at the moment.😆
as far as shooting long - i do believe his words were.
"that was awesome!"

ive used the LRX for a while. been a great hunting round. dropped many deer with one shot. also took at elk at 600 with the LRX before it was loaded for factory ammo. id shot some steel rail road tie plates laying in dirt at about 800 with Ron a local legend 5-6 years ago, but that had been the furthest until Saturday's escapade.
i was just surprised to find that it opened to a mushroom/X at 1400fps going through the milk jugs.

Proof's in the pudding as they say !,nice report and pictures, I've been a Barnes fan from the beginning, reloaded many 165 x spritzers and boatails for my Cousins 300 BEE md70 push feed rifle for Elk hunting, funny thing is it's Very hard to catch one,and he's short more then a half dozen. Shooting water jugs that far is Fantastic in itself, everything's got to come together ,So Congratulations to you and the new shooter, good of you to take your boys and show them the ropes .👏👏👏😎
