so I fully realize i May be ending 2018 with a silly question....what the heck, folks on here have been super helpful. I'm on a pretty tight budget looking for a good all round elk/mule deer gun that will shoot at distance. I found a smoking deal on a rifle with a 1/2 minute guarantee but, I don't like the color of the stock. I was wondering if I could send of the stock to get it repainted? Anyone done this? What does it cost? Happy new year!!!

I would bet more than a few shops in your area offer cerakote services

You can paint your own pretty easy. I did both these with spray can Duracoat. Get them good and clean, scuff it up, and following paint directions. Easy peasy.

Lots of people will poo-poo krylon, but you can make a stock look very good with it.......top coat it with Brownells matte clear Alumahyde for a solvent resistant finish. A simple paint job that looks decent is a solid base coat color of your choice, followed by a webbing spray coat. Looks really good on the cheap, spend the money saved shooting as others said!

Second on the Alumahyde. I used it as a topcoat to make them more chemical resistant. Even the matte comes out a little shiney, as you can see on the green one. A little steel wool will dull it down.

I don't know if the stock is like a bell and carlson or hs precision, but you can send those back to the company and they will paint them, b&c is like $50 and hs precision is like $150.

I have a buddy who can take a can of spray paint to a $2500 gun and scope - sprays the whole **** thing. Makes me sick just thinking about it. He almost had me talked into doing my 204 Ruger vssfII. Instead i sent that stock into hs precision for their urban camo job. So glad I didn't paint it myself. Some people have the ability - I had enough self awareness to know I didn't:)

Make that 3. I've done about a dozen stocks with it and it holds up pretty well.

My son has several friends who aren't "in the chip" so an aftermarket stock is out of reach for them. We paint their Tupperware stocks with a plastic primer, base color and use Krylon webbing paint from Hobby Lobby followed with a clear urethane. To me anything looks better than the Tupperware black. These kids think they're hot stuff at the range now.
