Which 308 win bullet?

You can compress 49.5grns of H4895 under 155s in win, lapua, norma, nosler, or lake city brass, usually federal and remington cases are thicker, but not stronger because they are softer, so they hold about a grain less. That will give you 50-75fps over varget and accuracy shouldn't change.

The ETips and higher pressure they create has me wondering if I should not try a faster powder. At a mid level load of Varget from Nosler manual for 150's I'm only getting 2750 fps which is the reported velocity for the starting loads. Don't have the book in front of me but I was hoping to get 2800-2900 with the 150's 2750 isn't bad but I wonder if I couldn't get another 100 fps with another powder. Without published data for the ETips I'm kind of in the dark. I figure if I stay under the 165 grain max loads with the 150 ETips I'll probably be safe.

You can't put enough varget under a 150 in a 308 to have pressure issues unless they are crimped! But if it were me I'd use RE15 very tightly compressed if your looking for 2900fps, it may be doable with 49grns of win 748 but its dirty. Its not hard to break 3k fps with a 150 nbt and RE15 or H4895 or H335 and a 24" pipe but H335 is also kinda dirty. I have shot 300yard matches with winchester cases, 155 scenars, 49.5grns RE15, around 35lbs neck tension wit a 2.885" oal, .010" jump, I use BR2 or 210M primers. Work some up, when you can smash golf balls at 300 yrds then its good!
