What is this case?

Picked this up at my range last weekend. Shown next to a 9mm case for reference. Would have just guessed it was aluminum cased 9mm, but it's a two piece sliding design with a significantly reduced internal capacity. Anyone have any thoughts? Might end up being a dumb question, but curiosity is killing me.

Paint round….blanks are crimped at the mouth like a shotgun shell.
A lot of places I hunt in Australia are riddled with 5.56 military blanks, metal base and plastic crimped upper in 5.56 and 7.62.
Have heard them, they're about as loud as a 22rf.

Cheers.

Yes, Simunition round. Shoots a proprietary paintball down a proprietary drop-in barrel. They make kits for several platforms, including Glock and the HK MP5.

I had never seen anything like your picture, but then this past Saturday I was out at the range and found a case like that for .223.

Law enforcement use them in handguns and AR15's. They are great for reality based training for force on force scenarios. You get marked with paint and they sting a bit.
