twist rate

I have a 308 savage model 99E i Wonder what would be me twist rate ? 1:10 or 1:12 ??

and i have a 7 mm rem mag model 700 with twist of 1:9.25...what grain of bullet will work best??

You can test the savage by using a tight patch and marking a starting point on the cleaning rod and when the mark comes up again measure the distance between the marks, with a 1 in ten the marks would be 10" apart.

The 1 in 9.25 twist will work well with all bullet weights in the 7 mag.

Did you check the barrel stamping? I know at least some savages have it stamped with a roll mark on the barrel itself.
