Good afternoon everyone,
I am looking to push a 123gr SST possibly as high as 3200fps(or as high as possible). Im finding data with the standard powders (Varget, 4350, Superformance) at around 3000fps, but think I can achieve better with slower powder as has been the trend of late. I did very well with Re26 and 140gr class bullets. I have quite a few options available including VV-N560, VV-N165, H4831, and RE-26. I am wondering if anyone has tried t push the 123gr SST(or other 123gr) to such speed.
Firearm is Sako A7 LR 26"bbl
The reason for the bullet choice and velocity is that around us the land is starting to be developed and we also have high hunter density, ranges will be less than 250yds. I want that bullet to go into a deer and expend most ALL of its energy while still giving me a DRT. On the odd .0005 chance I miss I want that bullet to deform/break up on the landscape. Load will also double for coyotes.
Thank you all.

I have that exact same rifle.
I sampled 130s when I first got it.
Pressured out at 2900fps with h4350.
Never tried lighter, but if you want 3200fps I think you're best bet is trying the 107 tmk's
I don't think you'll get to 3200 with out serious pressure issues because as with going up in case capacity you lose efficiency, but you also lose efficiency when you go down in bullet weight.
I'm not a gunsmith, but it might be possible to have that chamber reamed out to a 260ai then you might have the capacity to run a 123gr 3200fps?

3200 fps seems a bit hot. Then again, I hit 3014 with 140s. Youd have to find the right powder that let's you pressure out at max case fill. You couldnt get enough rl-26 in the case to get 3200 with the 123. If your really looking for max velocity for the 123 I'd be looking at rl-16 or rl-23. I think 3100 is definitely doable.

Try 4000MR or Reloder 17 but easier to just go 6.5 PRC....I am using a mild load of N 165 in the PRC with 123 Scenars from 24 inch barrel and it is averaging 3125.

At 2650 with the 140's ( 610ish bc ) you go subsonic at around 1425yds. You don't have to push the crap out of them. I was out the other day doing barrel break in with HBN coated 141's with 41g of 4350 av. just shy of 2700.
Regards

I'm running 124gr Hammer bullets at just below 2,900 ft/sec in a 26" bbl. Working with Varget I hit 3,000 ft/sec with 41.0gr but the load was HOT. Over pressure signs were quite evident.

I doubt that you could get anywhere near 3,200 ft/sec but would be interested in hearing how things work out in your testing.
