Tikka T3x…..223 or 22-250?

I'm thinking of picking up a new truck gun/coyote calling rifle. Tikka makes both the .223 and 22-250 with 1-8 twist. I'm tooled for both reloading wise. Kinda leaning toward the .223 but feel free to talk me out of it.

'250 all the way, as much as much as I love the 223 I'd no doubt go bigger.

Find a 8 twister and rock on, you'll be Golden

You should definitely get both!!

If you really only want one I'd personally get the 223 just because of ammo availability but both is a better solution.

I have 222, 222Mag, 22-250 & 22-250AI. We don't have Yotes here, but we do have foxes and wild dogs that are domesticated dogs bred with Dingoes. For fox pelts, we get paid for them, I use the 222/Mag. For wild dogs I use the 22-250/AI.

It's really a matter of whether the flatter trajectory is worth the reduced barrel life or not. If you're not going to shoot it a lot it's not a big deal, but if you don't already have a fast twist .22 cal you'll probably want to shoot it a lot once you realize how much fun they are. For that the 223 is the obvious choice. You also won't trim brass as much with a 223 and if you do want to shoot factory ammo the options are endless whereas the 22-250 is limited and seems to be getting more limited all the time.

The up side to the 22-250 other than 400fps more velocity with any given bullet is that it can very easily be reamed to 22 Creedmoor.

I'd go with the 22-250 and get all the speed you can out of it. You could have even more fun by reaming it out to a 22 Creedmoor

The wiser option would be 22 creed and not have to dick around with fire forming and have a better chance of it actually feeding properly…

I don't know what to tell you, I have both, probably shoot 200 or more rounds through the .223 for every one that I shoot through the 22-250. Accuracy wise there is not much difference, the 250 has the edge in horsepower, but the .223 gets more miles per gallon.

After a couple of hours shooting Prarie dogs behind the 250, the .223 is a lot of fun to shoot. If you are shooting more coyotes get the 22-250. Prarie dogs and small varmints go .223. Just my $.02.

You could just ream a 22-250AI chamber and run a 7" twist like I did, I see no advantage to a 22 Creedmoor.

I'd go 22-250 if it were me. It will do everything a 223 will do and then some, especially with a 1:8 barrel. No so the other way around.
